After going their separate ways, and each converting to the Rastafari movement, they reunited in Kingston and formed a vocal group. Funding for their first album came in the form of a grant from the Twelve Tribes of Israel branch of Rastafari after Hugh Booth, a member of the Twelve Tribes, had overheard the three men singing in a wooded area outside Kingston. Apple and Wiss were living in the area, which they had converted into a home.
Israel Vibration recorded three albums; "The Same Song", "Unconquered People", and "Why You So Craven" before temporarily disbanding in 1981 after recording sessions for the latter were left incomplete. The three men moved to the United States to seek professional health care and escape the growing Dancehall movement in Jamaica. In 1988, Gary "Dr. Dread" Himmelfarb, founder of RAS Records, urged the trio to reunite and record an album. Skelly, Apple, and Wiss were flown to Washington, D.C. to record a new album at Lion and Fox Recording Studios. "Strength of my Life", the group's fourth album and first of 18 CD releases on the RAS label, was met with great praise and is considered one of the few post-golden era touchstones of the roots reggae genre.
In 1997, Apple Gabriel left the group to pursue a solo career. Skelly and Wiss continue to record albums and tour the world as Israel Vibration, backed by longtime associates Roots Radics.

Go away you racist. I put you through the test.
Your dirty game won't bring this light to shame.
I'm just a buffalo soldier. Survival is my game.
Your racist mentality keep I down in poverty.
You ambush in the night. Giving I a fight.
But Jah keep on surfacing. Jah keep I surviving.
Iya work so hard. You draw bad card.
Gimme that green money. You can take the award.
Lord we build the cabin. We plant the corn.
Now you back-stabbing me. Look me with your scorn.
Naw look no sympathy. When I work pay I nuff money.
My tear drops is your sorrow, And you midnight terror.
Like a thief in the night, Jah judgement swift and right.
Keep I in the corner cause of my black skin tone.
But the stone that builder refuse,
Shall be the head corner stone.
They say smite the shepherd and scatter the sheep.
Foolish talk bark at flying bird. your fancy talk is cheap.
Your racist mentality, make me feel fe get violently.
You ambush in the night. Giving I a fight.
They say a hungry man is a angry man.
Slave driver, say the table is turn.
We are the survivors, you gonna get burn.
Another bad card, making my life so hard.
Go away with you other bad card. Jah a the woner
The lyrics to the song 'Ambush' by Israel Vibration talks about the struggles faced by black people due to racism. The lyrics start with the singer saying that they always try to do their best, but they receive less in return. They then ask the racist individuals to leave them alone, as they are tired of being tested by them. The singer also believes that the racist intentions of these individuals will not be able to bring them down because they are survivors, just like a buffalo soldier.
The song also highlights the inequality faced by black individuals in terms of poverty. The racist mentality of society is blamed for their continuous oppression and struggles in life. The singer further explains that even though they have faced many hardships, they are still surviving, and this is all because of Jah, which is a term for God in Rastafarian culture.
The chorus of the song conveys the message that even though the racist individuals try to ambush and fight them, they are still surviving because of Jah's help and support. The singer declares that they will never give up in the face of adversity and that they will continue to fight for their rights.
Overall, the lyrics to 'Ambush' are a powerful message about the struggles faced by black people, and how their faith in their inner strength and Jah's providence helps them survive.
