After going their separate ways, and each converting to the Rastafari movement, they reunited in Kingston and formed a vocal group. Funding for their first album came in the form of a grant from the Twelve Tribes of Israel branch of Rastafari after Hugh Booth, a member of the Twelve Tribes, had overheard the three men singing in a wooded area outside Kingston. Apple and Wiss were living in the area, which they had converted into a home.
Israel Vibration recorded three albums; "The Same Song", "Unconquered People", and "Why You So Craven" before temporarily disbanding in 1981 after recording sessions for the latter were left incomplete. The three men moved to the United States to seek professional health care and escape the growing Dancehall movement in Jamaica. In 1988, Gary "Dr. Dread" Himmelfarb, founder of RAS Records, urged the trio to reunite and record an album. Skelly, Apple, and Wiss were flown to Washington, D.C. to record a new album at Lion and Fox Recording Studios. "Strength of my Life", the group's fourth album and first of 18 CD releases on the RAS label, was met with great praise and is considered one of the few post-golden era touchstones of the roots reggae genre.
In 1997, Apple Gabriel left the group to pursue a solo career. Skelly and Wiss continue to record albums and tour the world as Israel Vibration, backed by longtime associates Roots Radics.
Rumours of War
Israel Vibration Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In this world of science, technology
Word leaders keep fighting over power
Yet they know not the time, place nor hour
Knowledge of mankind has increase
And still there aint no peace
Everywhere there is just war
A yaga yo yaga yoy
War on the land
War on the sea
War in the air
War everywhere
Just a rumours of war
Until there's no longer first class, second class of any nation
Class, race or creed
Everywhere there'll just be war
A yaga yo yag yoy
Just a rumours of war
In the song Rumours of War by Israel Vibration, the lyrics discuss the destructive and devastating effects of war. The lyrics express the idea that the technology and knowledge of mankind have increased, yet there still exists no peace. The song talks about the vast stage of nuclear energy and how science and technology have advanced to the point that the world leaders fight over power. The lyrics lament that despite the advancements and knowledge, there is still no peace, and war continues to occur.
Furthermore, the message of the song is that until humans can eliminate power struggles based on class, race, and creed, there will be no end to war. The song suggests that if humans continue to be categorized into different classes and nations, war will continue to be inevitable. The lyrics beg for unity among humans, where there will no longer be such classifications, and then, maybe there will be peace.
