White Bird
Itās a Beautiful Day Lyrics

In a golden cage
On a winter's day
In the rain
White bird
In a golden cage
Alone
The leaves blow
Across the long, black road
To the darkened skies
In it's rage
But the white bird
Just sits in her cage
Unknown
White bird must fly
Or she will die
White bird
Dreams of the aspen trees
With their dying leaves
Turning gold
But the white bird
Just sits in her cage
Growing old
White bird must fly
Or she will die
White bird must fly
Or she will die
The sunsets come
The sunsets go
The clouds roll by
And the earth turns old
And the young bird's eyes
Do always glow
She must fly
She must fly
She must fly
White bird
In a golden cage
On a winter's day
In the rain
White bird
In a golden cage
Alone
White bird must fly
Or she will die
White bird must fly
Or she will die
White bird must fly
Or she will die
The song "White Bird" by It's a Beautiful Day is a melancholic piece, describing the feeling of being trapped and longing for freedom. The white bird, a metaphor for freedom, is stuck in a golden cage. In winter's rain, the bird is alone and seemingly content to remain in her cage. The leaves blow across the black road, and the storm rages, but the bird remains motionless, trapped and unknown in her cage.
The bird dreams of the aspen trees and their gold foliage, but time passes, and the bird grows old. The sunsets come and go, the clouds roll by, and the earth turns old. Yet, the white bird remains stuck in her cage, unable to move. The song suggests that the white bird must fly, or she will die.
The repetition of "white bird must fly or she will die" further emphasises the importance of freedom and choice in life. The song ends with a plea for the white bird to fly, emphasising that the freedom to choose is essential to one's wellbeing.
