All these child actors are hilarious but likable
Despite some goofy moments and predictable frights it's solidly acted, funny, and sticks closer to Stephen King's source material
Definitely one of his best adaptations and serves as a good metaphor for the impending dangers of adulthood and loss of innocence as kids
Truly taps into the fears we are susceptible to at a very young age
Nostalgia Critic thought it was trying to be an 80s film, a timeless film, have subtle scares, over-the-top scares, adult humor, cartoony humor
Tonally and stylistically, it's just all over the place
But he admires it for trying so much, even when pieces don't always fit together, which helps create less of an identity

I finished reading the novel for the first time 6 days ago and watching Chapter 1 soon after was just STUNNING! The cast was fantastic (especially Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise) and I love how Muschietti really touched on the central themes and tone of the story while taking a few deviations. The 90s miniseries has always been a favorite of mine yet I give huge praise for what the movie touched on and represented in contrast to that screen version.

I remember watching this trailer in middle school. I was undergoing a minor phase where, bored in English class, I was looking up the plots of horror films on Wikipedia. It was also the time when I was starting to watch YouTube more often. I think this played as an ad in front of another video I was watching, but not only was it scary, it got me hooked to where I didn't feel so scared as to skip it. I think I haven't watched the film yet, even after all these years, but I can say that this is probably one of the best trailers I've ever seen.

if you haven't heard of the book before, or know nothing about the film the tone change at 0:24 does a great job of establishing "Yes, this is a trailer for a horror film. Have fun watching :)" At 1:22, you think "Oh, it's just another trailer montage to deliver brief exposition to get us hooked," but it doesn't cut away to another scene from the film, and then the projector scene starts happening. And most of all: it doesn't show Pennywise in full at any point, except for a brief frame after the title drop. We know It's probably a clown, but not seeing him in full makes him all the scarier.
