Iver is composed of two accomplished songwriters, pianists, and vocalists, Blake Powell and Morgan Cornwell. The two musicians met in a college music class and immediately connected on multiple levels. They both played piano, so despite wishes to write and perform together, they felt limited. However, as most fated stories go, these limitations led to some unconventional innovation... double pianos. Although they were unaware of the effect their music would possess, their memorable melodies and stellar piano playing unwittingly created a sound that surpasses genre.
The truth is, you may not have ever heard a mixture of sound like Iver's. Iver is your life's soundtrack. Contemplative, intelligent, indie rock. You would never think that Dashboard Confessional type male vocals and sweet and delicate female vocals could blend so beautifully. Two pianos played together create a wall of sound capable of heavy-hitting rock or patient classical like montages. Music is about emotion and Iver may just evoke every one.
The public reaction to Iver was overwhelming, instantaneous, and truly powerful. The release of their one and only record, Citadel of Stars EP (tracks from Citadel Of Stars EP can be heard at www.myspace.com/ivermusic), was wildly accepted and acclaimed. After much consideration and thoughtful growth, Iver has now begun writing new material for their highly anticipated second installment of songs as well as live performances. Keep your eyes and ears open, because the movement is back.

I'm building a sill to slow down the time
I'm up in the woods, I'm down on my mind
I'm building a sill to slow down the time

I'm up in the woods, I'm down on my mind

I'm building a sill to slow down the time
I'm up in the woods, I'm down on my mind
I'm building a sill to slow down the time
The lyrics to Iver's song Woods convey the feeling of being lost, confused, and overwhelmed. The repetition of the lines "I'm up in the woods, I'm down on my mind, I'm building a sill to slow down the time" creates a sense of desperation and a need to escape from the chaotic world. The use of the word "woods" suggests a desire to connect with nature and find solace in the natural world.
The idea of "building a sill to slow down the time" can be interpreted in several ways. It could mean the creation of a physical structure to help slow the passing of time, or it could be a metaphor for finding a way to slow down the hectic pace of life. The repetition of this phrase throughout the song emphasizes the urgency of the need to slow down and find peace.
Overall, Woods is a hauntingly beautiful song that captures the appeal of escapism and the desire to find a sense of calm and quiet. It is a deep and introspective exploration of the complexities of the human mind and the search for meaning and purpose.

You don’t just hear Justin’s songs, you feel them — they burrow into your gut and then gently squeeze and twist your soul. A decade ago, as my marriage (and life) was crumbling in rural Japan, I would lie in the bathtub every night and softly sing these words over and over:
I’m up in the woods.
I’m down on my mind.
I’m building a still
to slow down the time.
Soaking in that hot cauldron with steam rising, sweat seeping from my pores and tears trickling down my face, I was effectively distilled to the essence of myself: an island of a man, increasingly detached, frail and hopeless; nothing more than a naked corpse slowly decaying in a waterlogged coffin.
I’m stronger now, but listening to “Woods” transports me right back to that isolation tank.

This song is so great. It's addictive without even using any instruments. My favorite from the EP.

I’m happy to hear that you’re stronger now. I agree, Bon Iver’s music is breathtaking, to say the least. He’s saved my life many times. And I’m glad he was there to comfort yours when things got tough. I hope all is okay now! - Kai.

this song is so special to me.
Me and my girlfriend listened to this walking through the Sziget festival showgrounds last year the morning after the first day - we walked silently sharing a pair of $2 headphones, holding hands and watching the world go by as the sun came up.
A year on and its still our favourite song. Forever grateful for Bon Iver and what he did to our world in those precious minutes <3
@SoulProphett
Sounds like a movie <3
