Break Away
Ivy Quainoo Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

From the fire in your words
To the dagger in your eye
I just have to
Lay my body down
Go and
Lay my body down
I pretend to be asleep
But I knwo you hear my cry
I just have to
Lay my body down
Go and
Lay my body down

But if I
Really want a change
Then I must admit
That I'm the one to blame

If I could break away
Cut the cord
For worse or better
If I could turn the page
At last and say
Goodbye forever
But on the other side
Of yesterday
Beyond the heartache
What if all I am
Without the pain
Is empty hearted
I could break away

Is it true what people say
That it's darkest before dawn?
I just have to
Lay my body down
Go and
lay my body down
Any hope we might have saved
Is too weak to let live on
I just have to
Lay my body down
Go and
Lay my body down

And if I
Really want a change
Then tonight I'm gonna need
All of my strength

If I could break away
Cut the cord
For worse or better
If I could turn the page
At last and say
Goodbye forever
But on the other side
Of yesterday
Beyond the heartache
What if all I am
Without the pain
Is empty hearted
I could break away

Oh, anything is better than this
I know
Anything is better

If I could break away
Cut the cord
For worse or better
If I could turn the page
At last and say
Goodbye forever
But on the other side
Of yesterday
Beyond the heartache
What if all I am
Without the pain
Is empty hearted
I could break away

If I could break away
If I could turn the page

But on the other side
Of yesterday
Beyond the heartache
What if all I am
Without the pain

Is empty hearted
I could break away

Overall Meaning

In "Break Away," Ivy Quainoo sings about the pain and struggle of trying to break free from a toxic relationship. The lyrics describe the feelings of being weighed down by someone's hurtful words and actions, feeling trapped and helpless. The lines "From the fire in your words, to the dagger in your eye" paint a vivid picture of the emotional abuse the singer is enduring. The repeated refrain of "lay my body down" emphasizes the exhaustion and resignation the singer feels, as if they have no choice but to submit to their partner's will. However, there's a glimmer of hope in the bridge when the singer realizes that in order to change their situation, they must accept responsibility for their own role in it. Overall, "Break Away" is a powerful anthem about the bravery it takes to break free from an unhealthy relationship and start anew.

I am one of the greatest fan of Celine Dion. But I don't wanna be biased on either sides. Ivy has good original version and Celine has her own. Let's not compare their style on how they sang the song. Both has emotions in every aspect of the song. PLEASE STOP COMPARING THEM LIKE PULLING DOWN ONE SINGER AGAINST THE OTHER. Let's just be happy that there are 2 versions of this song. :)

Francis Singh

two things to remember, Ivy and Celine have different singing styles. Celine does have a stronger more powerful vocal prowess over ivy, but that doesn't mean its better, They both are equal. Celine has the oppotunity to be given music and sing it and add her own mix to it.  Celines version of this song is fantastically amazing. Her vocal prowess commands the lead with the orchestral piece playing behind it. Her voice is also different. celine has an accent that is stronger, its more distinct and her high notes and flawless. You cannot say she sucks at hitting high notes because she did for over a decade in her career. its what made her celine dion.  I LOVE Ivy;s a lot. i say they both are equal in their own respective ways

Celina Caprina

I love your version Ivy !!! sooo much feeling

Jussan Silva e Silva

Vai dar Celine no topo do mundo!

Phil Henshaw

Been obsessed with Céline's version for weeks, didn't even know Ivy did it originally. I prefer Celine's huge vocals, but Ivy has a nice soulful voice that gives the song a nice edge.

Reetchie Mc'Anthony

she has an amazing voice!! oh Gosh!!!!!!!!!!

Bluebeyond08

Ivy's a good singer but Celine slays this song.
