Signore ascolta
Izzy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Signore, ascolta! Ah, signore, ascolta!
Liù non regge più, si spezza il cuor!
Ahimè, ahimè, quanto cammino col tuo nome nell'anima,
col nome tuo sulle labbra!
Ma se il tuo destino doman sarà deciso,
noi morrem sulla strada dell'esilio.
Liù non regge più! Ah! Ah!
The lyrics of Izzy's song "Signore Ascolta" are from the perspective of the character Liù, who is in love with the prince Calaf, but knows that she cannot be with him because he is already in love with the princess Turandot. In the song, Liù is pleading with Calaf to listen to her and to understand the pain that she is feeling. She tells him that her heart is breaking and that she cannot carry on with his name on her lips and in her soul. Liù is resigned to the fact that they will both have to leave and go into exile because of Calaf's desire for Turandot.
The lyrics are full of emotion and pathos, as Liù expresses her love and despair in equal measure. She knows that there is nothing she can do to change Calaf's mind, but she still wants him to understand the depth of her feelings. The repetition of "Signore, ascolta!" emphasizes Liù's desperation and her need for Calaf to hear her words.
Overall, the lyrics of "Signore Ascolta" are a poignant reminder of the power of unrequited love and the toll it can take on someone's heart. The raw emotion and honesty of the lyrics make it a standout song from Izzy's repertoire.
