Let Me Go
J.C. Andersen Lyrics

Overall Meaning

In "Let Me Go," J.C. Andersen tells a story of overcoming fear and embracing love. In the beginning, he recounts how his fear had captured him, and he couldn't see real love coming his way. This fear kept him running away from what he was truly looking for. But then, someone and or something opened up his eyes, and he realized that his fear was holding him back from experiencing true love. J.C. Andersen had to confront his fears, and it was hard, but now he doesn't belong to fear anymore. He tells Mr. Fear that he doesn't need him anymore and should let him go.

The chorus of the song asks Mr. Fear to let go of J.C. Andersen's life. He wants to be freed from the chains of fear and be able to live his life as he desires. He further states that he needs to remind himself that his relationship with fear is no longer the same as it used to be, and he is not afraid anymore. He tells Mr. Fear that he has been replaced by Mr. Love, who now resides in him, and he is strong enough to cast out fear. Therefore, he must leave and take his hand off Andersen's shoulder as he doesn't belong to him anymore.

Overall, "Let Me Go" is a testimony to the power of love and how it can conquer the deepest fears. Andersen's story serves to remind us all that overcoming our fears is the key to living our best lives.

See I can still remember when
I recall a past event

You said you were my only friend
You claimed to be my sole companion

Yeah Mr. Fear you captured me
Fear held me captive

I was blinded and couldn't see
I was unable to see

That real love was bound to come
I will eventually find true love

And confront what I was running from
It will help me face my problems

(He) opened up my eyes and let me know
He made me realize and understand

That I don't need you no mo'
I don't need fear anymore

Time to time I must remind you
Every now and then, I need to remind you

That we're not tight the way we used to
We're not as close as before

Before you tell me what you came for
Before you state your purpose

Turn and walk out that door
Leave and don't return

Mr. Love now resides here
Love has taken over

He's strong enough to cast out fear
Love can overcome and eliminate fear

And since I don't belong to you no more
I'm no longer under fear's control

Take your hand off my shoulder
Remove your hold on me

Let me go, oh let me go
Allow me to move on

Yeah let me go
Just let me go

Oh let me go, go
Please let me go
