It’s the only place I know
My troubles go
Back and forth through my head
Like swords and knives they cut
But no blood is shed
Electric lines are just swinging vines And I just can’t pick up
Which way to climb it yet
Cause you need to two to play
Hide and Seek
Ba ba doop ee da da da da ah bop ee Doo ah ah ah ba ba ba ba ba ba da
The sun is shining everywhere
But darkness seems to
Follow me when you’re not there
My knees get weak
I don’t get sleep
Cause I need you to play
Hide and Seek
I close my eyes and I count to ten
With hopes you’re coming back
Again to dry my tears
And kiss my cheek
I hate the fucking game of
Hide and Seek
I hate this fucking game of
Hide and Seek
The sun is shining everywhere
But darkness seems to
Follow me when you’re not there
My knees get weak
I don’t get sleep
Cause I need you to play
Hide and Seek
Ba ba doop ee da da da da ah
Ba ba ba ba ba ba
I hate this game of
Hide and Seek
The song "Hide and Seek" by J.D. Justice is a story about a person walking along the coast, trying to escape their troubles but unable to do so due to their thoughts constantly swirling around in their head, cutting like swords and knives. The electric lines they encounter are like swinging vines, and the person doesn't know which way to climb to escape their problems. They are holding a solo cup, a symbol of loneliness, feeling like they need someone else to play the game of Hide and Seek. The sun is shining but darkness seems to follow them whenever the person they need to be with is not around. They can't sleep, and they close their eyes hoping that when they open them, the person they are seeking will be there to dry their tears and kiss their cheek. But they hate the game of Hide and Seek because it means they are always searching for something that may not be found.
The lyrics paint a picture of loneliness and a longing for someone to be there for them. The use of the solo cup as a symbol of loneliness and the game of Hide and Seek as a metaphor for searching for love are interesting elements of the song. The repetition of the line "I hate this fucking game of Hide and Seek" highlights the frustration and hopelessness the person feels as they try to find the one they need. The contrast between the shining sun and the darkness that seems to follow them when the person is not there adds depth to the emotional turmoil the person is experiencing.
