It's terrible pessimism in the short term, but a real hint of some guiding light. It's not despair or misanthropic, there is still the humour and the larger deal. I mean in the satirical element. They accused Swift of being horrified and horrible but actually he was hopeful and loved man and was attempting to teach. Dick is truly a great writer

No, she had a baby with Deckard. Then, she died during childbirth. There was trouble with the delivery, and a combat medic (android) had to perform an emergency C-section. He was a sentimental skin job, as he took the time to clean her bones and store her remains in an ossuary. Some people thought he might have eaten the baby, but he didn't.

The mood organ fascinates me as a concept. As someone suffering from a mild depression related disorder, the idea of being able to simply dial to escape a downward emotional spiral is something I crave, especially as it happens. It disturbs me too. The idea of not being allowed to simply feel my emotions as they happen, surrendering control to a device, would I even be myself anymore?

This was very well done and captured my attention more than a lot of other audio books.

This book overall a few times feels disjointed. I wish the world was explained in detail more.

I do wonder about the future of AI and reality. Creating another entity that can shape its own reality is fascinating. Most likely an entity more advanced than its creator.

The Iran thing in my opinion was just a rope a dope. The first chapter gets you thinking he's a normal protagonist with the world even his wife against him , but the more you read on and think the more you realize she was right about everything she was saying and he's happy to be delusionally stagnant.
In fact by the end I realized he doesn't do much. Almost everything happens around or to him. He often says or does selfish or crude things to others without much respect or empathy. His wife is the only stable and good thing in his life and he kinda treats her badly and cheats on her. It's insane that the most functional relationship in the story was between two androids. I think a lot of this book was a masterclass in subverting character and story trope expectations before it was cool to try and do that

Well..so far he seems way more invested in her channel than Nader was. He is actually putting in the work for her channel to succeed. So..Will he be taking over the channel and giving it a makeover to his liking or will he just merge their channels together? Or will they film the wedding for views?

Yeah, Rick sleeping with a woman that has the body of an adolescent, cheating and bordering the #me2 line feels very outdated and gross.

This audio book is good ,but the story is crap Phillip k Dick was on drugs when he pen th novel years ago.The moved is bumd; Blade Runner is better really

Eh just different. Dicks story is actually great. It focuses on the lack of empathy in humanity and materialistic narcissism where the movie is more posing the blanket philosophical query of what it means to be human.

It is an artistic title that stresses the existential and empathetic themes of its novel. It literally makes perfect sense after the world building of the first chapter. With the introduction to the androids, Mercerism, and his electric animal upstairs.

I think the question “do androids dream of electric sheep” is specifically asking “do androids dream of having electric pets, and would they mean as much to them as real animals mean to humans?” It satirises consumerism, as it implies that when you get down to it, robot sheep and normal sheep are functionally the exact same, the real sheep just costs way more money. This ties in to the novel’s themes about consumerism, and what it means to be alive, and how different people see different values in things that are economically worthless.
