weird
J.R. Boss Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Only people I talk to these days are my dogs
Human beings weird can't speak to them oh my god
Ride around Creston hopping round like a frog
Greatest show in town call me Marshall Faulk
I don't act hard I be white like some chalk
One sniff I can tell they be high like a hawk
I see that girl and all I can do is just gawk
Then I sip some liq and our lips start to talk
Fuck this stupid party yo I wanna go golf
These people have no substance they remind me of some broth
I had this old girl who said God was just like Santa
Fake
Girl I think we need break
You corny like you Drake
You called me a rat, a snake
You said I was a big mistake
I'm tough like steak so that shit don't get to me
You're childish and we are history

Go
Go
I said no no no no no no no no no no no
I said no no no no no no no no no no no
I've made a lot of mistakes and yes it shows shows
I used to hate myself on the low low

But now I know know
Oh yes I got you

Overall Meaning

In J.R. Boss's song "Weird", he describes feeling disconnected from people and preferring the company of his dogs to that of human beings. He sees others as weird and cannot relate to them. He rides around his hometown of Creston, behaving erratically like a frog and feeling as though he is the center of attention ("greatest show in town call me Marshall Faulk"). He doesn't try to act tough or put on a false persona, instead acknowledging that he is simply white as chalk. When he is around people who are under the influence of drugs, he can easily tell because of the way they act ("one sniff I can tell they be high like a hawk").

One of the few things that catches J.R.'s attention is a particular girl whom he cannot help but stare at. However, this interest quickly fades, and he becomes disenchanted with the superficial people around him who lack substance ("These people have no substance they remind me of some broth"). He recalls an ex-girlfriend who considered God to be like Santa Claus and sees her as fake and unimportant. J.R. calls out this girl for her immaturity and calls their relationship history.

The song addresses feelings of isolation and a sense of not belonging. J.R. sees himself as different from others and is more comfortable in the company of his dogs than people. Additionally, he calls out superficiality and immaturity when he sees it. The lyrics take on a confessional tone as J.R. reveals his own insecurities and past mistakes.
