Since the separation of his parents in 2006, J.Reyez and his family struggled to make ends meet financially and he has taken it upon himself to help out anyway he can from helping out with the bills to helping put food on the table. Growing up, J.Reyez had a background of doing things a lot of people consider to be wrong and in the summer of 2006, he ran into some trouble with the law, making it hard for him to live the normal life he wishes upon himself day in day out. After pleading guilty to his charge, he was released and now has dedicated his life to the one thing that helped him deal with his emotions and escape from the troubled life he has lived, MUSIC.
The J stands for the initial of his first name (Justin) and the Reyez (Rise, Eyez with an R) stands for his fast elevation since stepping in to the music game. Born in East yet raised in the West, this young lyricist displays a disciplined work ethic rarely seen at his age with a quite confidence of an industry veteran.
J.Reyez has emerged as one of Canada’s most multi dimensional Hip Hop prospects versed in the new school DIY “Do It Yourself” era of writing, producing, recording, mixing/engineering, photography/graphic design and most recently directing and editing music video’s. He has been profiled on HipHopCanada.com and Hip Hop’s biggest online video sharing site, WorldStarHipHop.com along side a recently produced music video featuring Canadian Hip hop heavy weight Mayhem Morearty. His smooth transition from verse to verse in a rhyme is continued from shot to shot in the videos he produces. This ‘double edged sword’ is cutting through the fat of Maple Leaf rap leaving listeners to a leaner cut of prime rhymes.
Sought after as the fresh vision for street artists, some industry insiders say he is taking the online indie game to another level through his Youtube and Myspace creations. Also understanding the importance of artistic collaboration J.Reyez teamed up with Hamilton R&B sensation Chris Jackson on the track ‘Suffocate’ which premiered on Buffalo NY’s radio station 93.7 WBLK and climbed the charts to #1 on the Unsigned Hype radio show. J.Reyez has also been played in heavy rotation on London’s 94.9 FM “The Come Up Show” and 106.9 FM “The X” and 93.3 CFMU ‘Live and Direct’ and featured in HipHopCanada.com, the Hamilton Spectator, the HypeofToronto.com, and most recently Aznraps.com. This balance of underground online presence and main stream media support demonstrates this young talent is making moves well beyond the 905 boarders.
So needless to say his GRIND is now paying off as his legion of fans are quickly growing globally online. As they closely watch his every move, he has consistently stepped his game up song after song and show after show, video after video. Before even turning 18, J.Reyez had 25 regional shows under his belt and captured the underground hip hop circles through his relentless hustle. To top it off he is an officially sponsored artist for the clothing line Tragic Glory whose message is to always turn negative situations into positive ones through their involvement with world vision sponsorship as well as donating to the Canadian Cancer Society. J.Reyez is exactly what is needed for Canadian Hip Hop, while others wait, he is already doing it for himself.

Whip out the lot lot lot
Stir up the pot pot pot
Send me the drop drop drop
Doing my dance go mad mad
Whip out the lot lot lot
Stir up the pot pot pot
Send me the drop drop drop
I jus be counting bands on bands, I’m up
When I get a bag, best believe I’m stacking up
Say you got work, well let me see wassup
Ik my nigas they down with the plan, we up
Only the fam, no you can’t hang with us
Shawty keep calling keep calling, I ain’t picking up
No you can’t stand in my lane, I’m dan-gerous
Aye yah lets go
I’m dan-gerous
Shawty goon bang wit us
G.S.E I trust
Got a push start and I’m gone
My whip it carry a drum
Aye
Say I feel invincible
I can’t be talking all literal
They watch so I spin off my pivotal
wooo
It’s what I get into
Fuck around teach you a thing or two
Talk to 'em
Erything copa static
They towing them automatics
We jus be out in traffic
She throw it back with passion
I jus be giving ‘em static
Best know I gotta have it
Mad mad mad
Whip out the lot lot lot
Stir up the pot pot pot
Send me the drop drop drop
Doing my dance go mad mad
Whip out the lot lot lot
Stir up the pot pot pot
Send me the drop drop drop
Doing my dance go mad
The lyrics of J.Reyez's song "Mad" are about his success and wealth, particularly his ability to make money and stack up cash. The chorus has J.Reyez repeating "Mad mad mad" and "Doing my dance go mad" repeatedly which could be interpreted as him being proud of his success and wealth, celebrating it through his dancing. The lyrics "Whip out the lot lot lot/Stir up the pot pot pot/Send me the drop drop drop" suggest that J.Reyez is continuing to make money and implies a degree of flamboyance in his lifestyle. The next verse speaks about his friends, noting that only they can hang with him, and talking about how he and his friends are all making money. He mentions his dangerous nature and suggests that he is unstoppable.
In the last verse, J.Reyez mentions how the people around him may be armed, and they move through traffic with caution. The line "She throw it back with passion" may be a reference to a woman showing interest in J.Reyez because of his success, and "giving 'em static" may be a reference to the phrase "static money" that means hustling and making cash without resorting to criminal activity. The song ends with the chorus, again emphasizing the idea of enjoying one's success and money.
