We Three Kings
J. Dee Lyrics

We three kings of orient are
Bearing gifts we traverse afar
Field and fountain
Moor and mountain
Following yonder star

Born a King on Bethlehem’s plain
Gold I bring to crown Him again
King forever, ceasing never
Over us all to reign

O star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to your perfect light

Frankincense and myrrh have I
I give the love in sacrifice
Prayer and praising, all men raising
Worship Him, God most high

O star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to your perfect light

O star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to your perfect light

Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to your perfect light

We three kings of orient are
Bearing gifts we traverse afar
Field and fountain
Moor and mountain
Following yonder star

Field and fountain

Moor and mountain
Following yonder star

Overall Meaning

"We Three Kings" is a Christmas carol that tells the story of three wise men who followed a star to Bethlehem to bring gifts to the newborn baby Jesus. The first two verses introduce the three kings and describe their journey across difficult terrain, following a bright star that leads them to Bethlehem. It is interesting to note that the number of wise men is not actually mentioned in the Bible, and they are sometimes referred to as "Magi," meaning astrologers or seers.

The third verse focuses on one of the kings, who brings gold as a gift to the baby Jesus to symbolize his kingship. The fourth verse mentions frankincense and myrrh, which are also gifts brought to Jesus by the wise men. These two items were expensive and were traditionally used for worship and embalming. The wise men laid these gifts before the baby Jesus in a stable as a form of worship, which is referenced in the fifth verse.

The final verse repeats the first verse, emphasizing the arduous journey and the importance of following the guiding star to find one's way. Overall, "We Three Kings" is a tale of faith and devotion, centering around the birth of Jesus and the miraculous star that guided the wise men to him.

Acutally, this was an out-take of their record "Don't Play Around with Love," and they made it only as a joke to be distributed to their friends and so on. Years later, it was released on a collector's label.
