Behind The Barn Door
J. M. Smig Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Covered the carcass of time with flowers
To send the scent of blame to the grave
Set the darkest thoughts on fire
And watched the ashes climb to Heaven's gates
We hide behind the crimson door
While the summer is killed by the fall
Alive behind the crimson door
While the winter sings: "Your love will be the death of me" (Death of me)
"Your love will be the death of me"
Death served wine for lovers
Brought from the world where devils reign
And intoxicated angels with sorrow
They witnessed in the eyes of their slaves
We hide behind the crimson door
While the summer is killed by the fall
Alive behind the crimson door
While the winter sings: "Your love will be the death of me" (Death of me)
"Your love will be the death of me"
We hide behind the crimson door
While the summer is killed by the fall
Alive behind the crimson door while the winter sings: "Your love will be the death of me" (Death of me)
"Your love will be the death of me"
We hide behind the crimson door
While the summer is killed by the fall
Alive behind the crimson door while the winter sings: "Your love will be the death of me" (Death of me)
"Your love will be the death of me"
We hide behind the crimson door
We hide behind the crimson door

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of J. M. Smig's song "Behind the Barn Door" touch on themes of death, love and the human inclination to hide behind seemingly secure places or situations. The opening verse refers to a person covering time with flowers, perhaps indicating an attempt to escape the inevitability of death. However, the scent of blame still lingers and serves as a reminder of the dark thoughts and emotions that continue to exist. The line "Set the darkest thoughts on fire" suggests a willingness to confront these emotions and move forward.

The chorus repeats the phrase "We hide behind the crimson door" indicating a sense of safety or refuge, perhaps from the outside world or from one's inner demons. The phrase "while the summer is killed by the fall" may indicate the fleeting nature of happiness or positive experiences, which are replaced by darker thoughts and emotions. The notion that "Your love will be the death of me" may indicate the dangers of becoming too attached to someone or something, as it could ultimately lead to one's downfall.

Overall, the lyrics of "Behind the Barn Door" convey a sense of darkness, introspection, and a search for meaning amidst life's struggles.

The discs are to be installed at the top of the door to stop it from jumping off the rail track.
The two plastic anchors are to be used to screw the bottom guide in case you have concrete floors.

I always watch this channel for advice, and for getting an edge on my home improvement skills. Most of what I know about projects like these, I have learned from this channel. Over the last two years, Home RenoVision has been tremendously helpful. Now, taking what I have learned, I would offer only to install/orientate the bump stop key screws to be on the top, so they’re hidden, and the handle on the left, when opening to the right (handle on the right if opening to the left). I know these guys are very professional, and they are likely installing based on the client’s wishes. I only offer these two cents, has I just recently installed my own barn door in the master bedroom and went through these parts of installation myself.

Just what I needed! I am building double sliding doors with mirrors for my daughters closet. One door slides behind the other. Still deciding if the door that goes behind the front door should have the mirror or chalk board surface to write on and decorate herself as she loves to draw.

Awesome video love the anchors : )

Whenever there's for trim to clear you have to go with a board up top, 3/4-5/4, looks cool with black bolts or ledger locks, I guess you could shim out the top track with nuts and paint then black so long as your mounted solid in a header or so sneaky wise backing like this guy

I did not quite see how the door is holding down at the bottom to the base board. Really nice door and with the mirror, looks fancy! Love watching your videos. Thank you

I'd highly recommend trying out the Metabo HPT 36v impact driver... there are power settings so you don't over do it on the lag bolts. (and extra power settings for when you need it..) Pretty great driver.
