When I was small
At a young age

Didn’t understand anything but love
Had a limited understanding of the world and only knew love

All I knew was being innocent and young

I saw my face on that Facebook wall
Saw negative comments about themselves on social media

Full of hate, it broke me down, but I read it all
The negative comments hurt but they still read them

But all the hurt - It made me stronger
The pain helped build resilience

And every word - Was like a fire
The negative comments ignited a passion within them

Burning me up, lighting me up
Fueled motivation and determination

Lifting me higher
Inspired growth and personal development

I wish I knew then that there’s a world outside those hallways
Wishes they knew that there was more to the world than their immediate surroundings

That doesn’t always tear you down for who you are
Wishes there were more accepting environments

If I could do it again, go back to the start
If given the opportunity to redo everything

I wouldn’t change a single scar
Would not change any negative experiences

I’d just leave them on my skin
Would keep the scars as a reminder of their journey

Cus they lead me to something
The negative experiences led to a positive outcome

Moving to a new environment provided a fresh start

In Tennessee - where I could be

Beginning to pursue their aspirations

All I needed, was a chance, to be me

Every late night - up for hours
Staying up late to work towards their goals

Now that all those - days are over
Looking back on their negative experiences
