The band played their first concert at the Echo Plex on January 27, 2009 and went on to release their debut album, Suicide Pact, on July 10, 2012.
Following the departure of James Valentine from the band, the name of the band has been changed to PHASES. In early 2015, the band signed with Warner Bros. Records and on May 12, 2015 released their first new music under their new name. I'm In Love With My Life, Betty Blue, and Cooler were all released on the same day, with a music video directed by Ethan Tobman for "I'm In Love With My Life" released simultaneously.

When you were never mine to give away
I was waiting for a long, long time
For you to feel the same
Who are you to look at me like that?
Is there something more you need to say?
I haven't loved you in a long, long time
Can you hear my heartbeat?
Please don't stand so close to me
Can you hear my heartbeat?
It's still beating strong
Maybe I'm ashamed to want you back
Maybe I'm afraid you'd never stay
Thought I hated you a long, long time
That was my mistake
I just can't pretend that nothing's changed
Can you comprehend just what to say?
If you break my heart a second time
I might never be the same
Can you hear my heartbeat?
Please don't stand so close to me
Can you hear my heartbeat?
It's still beating strong
I haven't loved you in a long, long time
Thought I hated you a long, long time
If you break my heart one more time
I won't ever be the same
Can you hear my heartbeat?
Please don't stand so close to me
Can you feel my heartbeat?
It's still beating strong
Can you hear my heartbeat?
When you stand so close to me
Can you hear my heartbeat?
It's still beating strong
Still beating strong
Still beating strong
The song "Heart Beat" by JJAMZ is a reflection on the complicated emotions that arise when an old flame resurfaces. The opening line, "Who am I to say I want you back?" suggests the hesitancy that comes with wanting someone who was never truly yours. The singer has been waiting for the other person to "feel the same," implying that there may have been a connection in the past that was never fully realized.
However, as the song progresses, it becomes clear that the singer's feelings are conflicted. They haven't loved this person in a long time and even thought they hated them, but they can't help feeling drawn back in. The chorus's repetition of "Can you hear my heartbeat?" and "It's still beating strong" illustrates the physical and emotional pull that this person still has on them.
The second verse continues to explore this internal conflict but also introduces a fear of getting hurt again. The singer recognizes that if their heart is broken for a second time, they may never recover. Despite this fear, they can't help wanting to see if there is something more to this rekindled connection. The song ends on this unresolved note, leaving listeners to contemplate the tangled emotions of the heart.
