New song "Angel" is his best work yet, a track isn't chasing current trends or styles, instead being rooted in classic pop and rock. "Angel" is a love song, but Joseph understands that falling in love is by no means easy or simple.
"'Angel' is about finding someone that suddenly means more to you than anything else," he explains. "A choice then arises. Do you pull away and protect yourself or do you surrender and risk the possible lows and unimaginable highs." In "Young Thing", JOSEPH OF MERCURY compels the people to stop clinging to their lives, since it's a race that everyone eventually loses. He persuades them to live and enjoy life while they still can. He acknowledges that everyone has taken love and has inevitably been hurt at some point, but he encourages listeners to keep searching for that love that does not break them. He reminds listeners that nothing stays constant and that everyone is prone to change, including friendship that can develop into a deeper connection, as the singer is experiencing with his Young Thing. The chorus serves as an assurance that despite all the changes that have occurred, his lover will still remain his favorite young thing.
The verses talk about the frailty of people's lives and the inevitability of death. People should, therefore, make the most of their time by exploring their emotions freely, even if it means being hurt. Joseph of Mercury reminds his love interest that they initially started as friends, but their feelings towards each other have upgraded them into a different phase of their friendship. However, he accepts that life is not about going backwards, so he does not think they can return to where they were.
