Papyrus:
A human has fallen from the surface world

Sans:
Really? And you got a bone to pick wit'im?

Papyrus:
No time for puns

Sans:
Ah, come on, that was a real rib tickler, hey!

Papyrus:
Ugh! Enough!

Sans:
Alright, here we go again

Both:
Welcome to the underground
How was the fall?
If you wanna look around
Give us a call
We don't see humans often
We're happy you just dropped in

Papyrus:
I'll be so popular when
I show all the monsters what I just brought in

Sans:
Hey! Papyrus, mind your manners

Papyrus:
Can it, Sans, no time for banter

Sans:
Excuse my brother, he's a bit eccentric

Papyrus:
You're just lazy and apathetic

Sans:
Call me what you want, I got thick skin

Papyrus:
Another bad joke and I'm finished with him
We are monsters, the awfullest kind

Sans:
To mess with us takes a lot of spine

Both:
We can relate to your determination
Because we monsters have our motivations
Humans betrayed us and left us burnin'
One day we'll make our way back to the surface
Through all your travels, your sins will follow
Your consequences aren't easy to swallow
Who's the real monster, now you should know
You've cut this story down to the bone

spoken:
Papyrus:
Really, Sans?

Sans:
What?

Papyrus:
The last line of the chorus is a pun?

Sans:
Yup

Papyrus:
You imbecile! That was very... clever...

Sans:
Heh. Thanks, buddy

Both:
You're stuck in the underground
Thanks to the fall
Good luck ever getting out
Prepare to brawl
You could show mercy to us
Or turn all of us to dust
Is your heart full of evil
Or full of love?

Papyrus:
I, the great Papyrus
Challenge you to try getting by us

Sans:
Test the human with one of your puzzles

Papyrus:
Brilliant, Sans, that'll leave him befuddled
I dare you to try a bite of spaghetti

Sans:
Smells like the creepypasta's ready

Papyrus:
Stop it Sans! I'm done with the jokin'

Sans:
Sounds like someone's funny bone's broken

Both:
We can relate to your determination
Because we monsters have our motivations
I am the mastermind, he's my accomplice
You're only still alive because I made a promise
You'll lose your mind when you wander for hours
You might even decide to start talkin' to flowers
Who's the real monster, now you should know
You've cut this story down to the bone

Papyrus:
Someday I'll join the Royal Guard
When I catch this child
Can it be that hard?

Sans:
Look, if I'm being honest
My brother ain't nothin' but harmless
I know you and all that you want
You'll get a lot more from Sans than a font
The deeper you go, the messier it gets
If I had it my way, you'd already be dead
Kidding, if you couldn't tell
I get so bored, I amuse myself

Both:
Down here in the underground
You're all alone
We wanted to tell you now
You're kinda boned
If you survive this prison
You will know nihilism
Don't mess around with monsters
They're scared of tiny children

Papyrus:
You've come far, but soon you'll stumble
When I stump you with some Junior Jumble

Sans:
Not so sure you'll get him with that

Papyrus:
Alas, I'll hit him with my Special Attack
Leave me alone

Sans:
You know I've got a knack for the trombone

Papyrus:
One more pun, and I'll be done

Sans:
But ain't two skulls better than one?

Both:
We can relate to your determination
Because we monsters have our motivations
You know your story's already been told
We can play again if you sell your soul
I've got my eye on you so you just watch it
I'll find any skeletons inside your closet

Who's the real monster now you should know
You've cut this story down to the bone

Overall Meaning

To The Bone by JT Machinima is a song based on Undertale, a highly popular video game that has been played by millions of fans all over the world. The lyrics of this song describe the meeting of human and monsters in the underground world. The song starts with Papyrus informing Sans about the fall of a human in the underground world. Though Papyrus is concerned about the matter, Sans is more interested in cracking a pun. They welcome the human and express their happiness in seeing one after a long time. However, they don't fail to remind the human about their motivations to reach the surface one day.

The song progresses with Papyrus challenging the human to pass through his puzzle, to test their worthiness. They even try to scare the human by warning them about the terrible consequences they will face in this monster-ridden world. The song ends with Sans sending a warning to the human, asking them to be aware of what they have done and the consequences that follow. To The Bone is a fascinating song as it gives us a glimpse of the monster world's perspective and their intentions towards the humans.

@RomanBVB09

Its almost been six years.
Somewhere in that dizzying amount of time, you played undertale.
You fell in love with the characters.
You fell in love with the songs.
You fell in love with how it made you feel.
Then the world got darker.
2020 happened.
Perhaps you retreated into the depths of games you've once played,
Perhaps you retreated into the comfort of movies,
The lulling consistency of work,
The promise of happier times.

But despite everything, it's still you.

And perhaps that's enough.

@sussybaka677

Sans is one of my favourite fictional characters.

Sans has been fighting flowey and saving the underground multiple times. Yet he's a hero nobody knows. No one knows when the timeline resets besides him and flowey, and it's useless for him to tell anyone since they will forget everything when the timeline resets. He kept fighting flowey without anyone's knowledge before you came. If sans didn't stop flowey, the underground would probably have gone before frisk fall because flowey would kill everyone and absorb their soul.

Fighting flowey multiple times, watching some of his friends and brother die, trap in hopelessness because sans don't have any power to reset, knowing anytime him or his friend can die anytime getting killed by flowey.....sans was stuck in this loop with no hope, he probably got worst than subaru from re zero. Even after all the bad things that happened to him, he could still smile and tell jokes to the others.

Essentially, knowing everything and losing everyone around him time and time again has caused Sans to fall into hopelessness, to give up on putting effort towards anything at all, knowing that it might/will simply be reset anyway in the end. This hopelessness is mistaken as sheer laziness by the others in the game, even Papyrus, and he rolls with it knowing he can never explain it to them. But one day, Frisk comes and gives him hope for a happy ending......before he starts to reset the timeline and do genocide like flowey.

Even if you kill his brother in neutral ending, he still didn't do anything to you. Maybe because of his promise with toriel. Only when you threaten to truly and utterly erase the world itself by heading down the Genocide path is he finally spurred to fight you, in an attempt to make you QUIT out of frustration.

And even with that, he still believes there is kindness in you, and I quote

"I know you didn't answer me before, but. . .

Somewhere in there. I can feel it.

There's a glimmer of a good person inside of you.

The memory of someone who once wanted to do the right thing.

Someone who, in another time, might have even been. . .

A friend?

C'mon, buddy.

Do you remember me?

Please, of you're listening. . .

Let's forget all this, ok?"

And if you return after sparing sans, he will say

" I guess that means we never really were friends

Please don't tell that to other sans"

I feel like he still believes in you and doesn't want other sans to be sad. Even after you kill everyone and try to destroy the timeline, he still believes you and him can be friends
