Just An Illusion
JULIA ZAHRA Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've been told 'bout living like a star
Hotel Rich, champagne and caviar
But no one ever showed me the reverse
And that really hurts, babe, it really hurts

I want you
I need you
They try to sell your body and you soul
It's the price you pay for rock'n roll
And no one understands it, how you feel
For it's so unreal, oh, it's so unreal

Baby, don't you cry for me
It's an illusion, just an illusion
I thought I knew what like should be
It's an illusion, just an illusion

When critics crucify your latest show
Another drink and then you lose control
But then on stage I feel a fire burn
There is no return; I'm always on the run
I give it to you, babe, with all my heart
For it's not too late, baby, it's not too late

Baby don't you cry for me
It's an illusion, just an illusion
I thought I knew what life should be
It's an illusion, just an illusion

Baby don't you cry for me
It's an illusion, just an illusion

I thought I knew what life should be
It's an illsuion, just an illusion

Overall Meaning

"Just An Illusion" by JULIA ZAHRA is a song about the illusion of fame and success in the music industry. The lyrics speak to the singer's realization that the popular image of living like a star with all its extravagances - from staying in luxurious hotels, sipping champagne and indulging in caviar - is nothing but a facade. The real price of fame comes at the cost of one's body and soul. The song goes on to describe the loneliness and isolation that comes with the rock'n roll lifestyle, with no one truly understanding the singer's struggles.

Amidst all the chaos, the one person who understands the singer's situation is their lover. The chorus assures the lover that they need not cry for the singer as it is all just an illusion. While the singer thought that they knew what life should be - glitz, glamour, and adoration - they now realize that it was all just a façade. The song is a heartfelt plea to the lover to stay with the singer, and the final lines express hope that it is not too late for them to turn things around.

My dad passed December 2021 from cancer. He always used to play it every day on repeat. Dedicated it to my mom and told her don’t cry when he’s gone it’s just an illusion. RIP Dad❤
