A singer who fuses reggae with R&B, hip-hop, and rock, J Boog is the stage name of Jerry Afemata, who was born in Long Beach, California but primarily raised in Compton. Of Samoan ancestry (his father was a tribal chief in his neighborhood), Boog's first influence was his sister, who sang and played piano. When she got a book of Bob Marley's classic songs, Boog began singing along, and when he was nine, the two performed a cover of Whitney Houston's "One Moment in Time" at a family reunion, in front of an audience of 200. Raised on an eclectic musical diet of classic reggae, West Coast hip-hop, vintage R&B, and a dash of hard rock, Boog gravitated to the laid-back attitude but taut grooves of reggae, and he began writing and recording his own tunes during downtime from his job at an oil refinery. In 2005, Boog traveled to Hawaii, where he met one of his favorite singers, George "Fiji" Veikoso; Boog gave him a copy of one of his mixtapes, and Veikoso thought Boog showed promise. Veikoso helped produce Boog's 2007 debut album, Hear Me Roar, which cracked the Top Ten of the American reggae charts; by this time, Boog was living in Hawaii. In 2008, Boog began working with veteran reggae artists Yami Bolo and Gramps Morgan (of the group Morgan Heritage), and launched a fruitful association with Hawaii's Wash House Records label. After absorbing reggae's history during a visit to Jamaica, Boog released a self-titled EP in June 2011, with his second full-length album, Backyard Boogie, appearing three months later. Featuring the singles "Let Me Know," "Let's Do It Again," and "Sunshine Girl," Backyard Boogie was a major success for J Boog, rising to the top of the U.S. reggae album charts in 2011, and claiming the top spot again in 2012 and 2013. A four-song EP, Live Up!, appeared in July 2013, and a collaborative single with Anuhea and SOJA, "Easier," dropped in 2014. After making guest appearances on releases by Gappy Ranks, Morgan Heritage, and Raging Fyah, Boog released the Rose Petals EP in March 2016. The release was a warm-up for Boog's third full-length album, Wash House Ting, which was released in November 2016.

fe pay her rent, her lifestyle set,
she hustle everyday inna de club on sweat
when she take a double, pay her cash, she collect,
her perfume, fragrance so sweet like honey,
break it down like a dancehall queen, yeah
her swagger and style make me weak,
like she came out of a swimsuit magazine,
told her, "it's a free country," yeah
whisper to her tenderly, telling her, baby
Girl, if I said …
you had a beautiful body,
would you hold it against me?
tell me I'm crazy, and walk away
or would you feel different about me?
say I'm amazing, fire was blazing
when you're leaving with me,
when you're leaving with me.
Sex her real good,
every time she see me she say "I inna de mood"
don't want to chatty chatty girl, straight to the job
dash away the girls callin' me iPhone
sit down, switch it into airplane mode
why I like, she full up on money
why I like, she don't want nobody, yeah
told her she's the one for me
pick her up anytime you ready, yeah
she said she a go stick by me
just like we were meant to be, yeah
whisper to her tenderly, telling her, baby
Girl, if I said …
you had a beautiful body
would you hold it against me?
tell me I'm crazy, and walk away
or would you feel different about me?
say I'm amazing, fire was blazing
when you're leaving with me,
when you're leaving with me.
Sexy and nice
the way she move her body make me want fe work
hard and need it more than twice (ye-yeah),
and when she do the walk on by and see the
jealously deep in a dem eyes (ye-yeah)
we making love like skyrockets in the night,
afternoon delight,
likkle more inna the evening, have yourself screaming, yeah,
she's the only one I need,
want to love her constantly, yeah
‘member first time when we meet
when I whispered, baby
Girl, if I said …
you had a beautiful body,
would you hold it against me?
yell me I'm crazy and walk away
or would you feel different about me?
say I'm amazing, fire was blazing,
when you're leaving with me,
when you're leaving with me.
The lyrics of J Boog's song "Leaving With Me" are about a woman who is independent and self-sufficient. She doesn't need a man to support her financially and works hard in the club to make ends meet. J Boog is attracted to her confidence and style, but also appreciates her physical beauty. He sings about their sexual chemistry and suggests that they should be together. However, he is also respectful of her autonomy and doesn't want to pressure her into anything. He asks her if she would leave with him, but leaves the decision up to her.
Overall, the lyrics celebrate the strength and independence of women, but also acknowledge the importance of mutual attraction and respect in a romantic relationship. The use of Jamaican patois and dancehall rhythms give the song a unique flavor and reflect J Boog's cultural roots.

"You got a beautiful body, would you hold it against me tell me I'm crazy then walk away."
Jboog was so sneaky with this one.
Was she holding it against you, or holding it AGAINST you?
Im telling you this man is a poet.
@jared5583
i cant get it :c
@DamCrooksta
jared Its a double meaning. He was saying she has such a beautiful body would she hold it against him if he fell for her because of it? But at the same time, he was also saying/asking her to put her beautiful body against him as in dancing with him. Hope that clears it up.
