My music is liberal, it is clear-cut and inspirational. My music appeals to people from all walks of life, given my ability to be versatile in the various genres I present. My positive lyrics together with my pulsating rhythms can captivate any dancing audience.
I am Joel Prince AKA “J Prince” another son inspired by the true and living god. As a producer, arranger, composer, singer, and songwriter I grew up in a Christian home founded on Godly values, but the influence of secular music changed my life’s focus. After having a close to death experience I felt the spirit of God drawing me, back to his purpose to live in pursuit of righteousness and to do His work through the many talents that he blessed me with.
As a producer, I founded an Indie label named Jlab Pro (J Lab Productions), and I’m working closely with Flowmasters Records. I have produced for the likes of Sherwin Gardner, Mr. Lynx, Emrand Henry, Jadee, Hozia hinds and Nihilet Blackman among a long list of others, and have written and produced hit singles for Cropover Barbados.
The “Omega Express Sound Station” was one of the cornerstones of Gospel Sound Systems in Trinidad, but I didn’t stop there, my musical evolution directed me to the path of singing. In 2008, I released a hit single “Victory,” produced by G Master, which made its way to number one on local radio stations. My video for "Victory" also climbed to number two on Tempo's cross-Caribbean secular countdown. Later that year, I released “Country Christmas,” a Soca Parang that tops the charts every Christmas season.
I have performed alongside the likes of Sherwin Gardner, DJ Nicholas, Monty G, Mr. Lynx, Jah Cure, Cecile, Ziggy Rankin, Lester Lewis, and has represented as the sole Gospel act for Tempo Turns 4 in Grenada. My performance was described as “his high energy and passionate gesticulations in every performance creates an epic atmosphere, making his ministry all the more effective.” Being on the Lion of Zion Entertainment Record Label; Mark Mohr describes me as “...shining example of the bright future of gospel reggae”.

The lyrics to J Prince's song Blood is a completely different style than the original song 'You've Got a Friend' by Carole King. J Prince's version is a reflection on loyalty and friendship in the context of gang violence, whereas King's original is a song of comfort and support for a friend in need. In J Prince's version the lyrics speak to being there for someone when nothing is going right, even when others cannot be trusted. The repeated line "you've got a friend" emphasizes the importance of having someone who has your back during challenging times.
The song's lyrics provide a message of hope and assurance that there is always someone who will be there in times of hardship. The repeated emphasis on "call my name" demonstrates the importance of communication in maintaining a strong friendship and connection. The lyrics suggest that in times of darkness and troubles, one can always count on a loyal friend to be there and provide guidance and support. The use of the phrase "blood" in the title and throughout the song speaks to the concept of loyalty being thicker than water, particularly in the context of gang culture.
Line by Line Meaning
When you're down and troubled
In times of sadness or distress,
And you need a helping hand
When you require assistance or support,
And nothing, nothing is going right
When all appears to be going wrong in life,
Close your eyes and think of me
Think of me when you need solace,
And soon I will be there
I will try to come to your aid as soon as possible,
To brighten up even your darkest night
To bring light and joy to your most sorrowful times,
You just call out my name
If you ever need me,
And you know wherever I am
You can be assured that I will find a way to you,
I'll come running to see you again
I will come to your aid as quickly as possible,
Winter, spring, summer or fall
During any season or time of year,
All you have to do is call
Simply pick up the phone and let me know what you need,
And I'll be there
And I will come to help you,
If the sky above you
If you are feeling weighed down by life,
Grows dark and full of clouds
If things seem to be getting worse,
And that old north wind begins to blow
And a cold, unfeeling world seems to surround you,
Keep you head together
Stay calm and composed in the face of adversity,
And call my name out loud
Ask for my help,
Soon you'll hear me knocking at you door
And I will come to your aid,
Ain't it good to know that you've got a friend
It is comforting to know that you have someone you can rely on,
When people can be so cold
In a world where people can be indifferent or even cruel,
They'll hurt you, and desert you
People may cause you pain and abandon you when you need them the most,
And take your soul if you let them
And they may even steal your happiness and hope if you let them,
You've got a friend
But you have someone who cares for you,
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend
It is a blessing to know you can depend on someone,
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend
It is a blessing to know you can depend on someone,
