1.) Carlos Techachal a.k.a. Jabba was born in Mexico City and began his DJ career in the city in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz. As a DJ he has shared the stage with great international personalities, and many well known Mexican talents.
He has been part of many projects, such as Element Frog (Chill out - ambient), and in the last years he has been working with Dj Vazik under the name of Bienmesabe, they have published tracks in labels like Kinetik, Toltecnica (Mexico) AP records, Tatsu (Germany) and Synergetic (Austria).
He has his own solo project, a live act that fusions energetic progressive rhythms, with little flashes of ambient and a soft touch of break beats and electro. The last year he released his first EP “Metamorphosis” on AP Records (Germany.
In October of 2006 Jabba released his first solo album called “National Tunes” on Soultribe Records (Germany). This fabulous, fat, groovy and sexy expedition starts with electro elements and goes trough progressive tunes, a wonderful journey of all electronic styles and influences.
In his “Live” show Jabba uses the Ableton technology to blow the dancefloors and show different sequences everytime, everywere.
He also has collaborated in the studio with Sharigrama (AP records), True to Nature (Iboga recs. Denmark), Trancemission (Aximy recs), Dj Forza (Synergetic recs), Logarythm (Central Dogma recs).
2.) For more than a decade, Jabba has been stirring things up as one of the most recognizable and versatile personalities involved in the reggae culture. Since the early '90s, he has served as one of the driving forces behind the world-renown Massive B Sound System and record label.
A highly respected DJ, promoter and host, Jabba still finds time to produce tracks for such notable artists as Elephant Man, Bounty Killer, Vybz Kartel, and Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley, to name a few. In addition to that, Jabba holds down two radio jobs; "On the Reggae Tip" with the rest of his Massive B crew on New York's Hot 97.1 FM and "Reggae Riddims" on Sirius Satellite Radio Ch. 32. "On the Reggae Tip" is currently the highest reggae/calypso show on New York radio. The busy jock even found time to make his acting debut playing "Dangles" in the 2002 film Shottas.
Jabba's tenure as one of New York's most successful reggae promoters in ongoing, thanks in part to his annual birthday party, "Jabba Strikes Back," which is attended by thousands of supporters every September. He also promotes a yearly "Spring Affair Party" in Brooklyn, NY that enjoys similar success. In fact, most Jabba promoted events are packed from wall-to-wall with music lovers-Just anyone that's attended his annual "Modeling Affair" in Harlem.
Despite all of his accolades as an individual, it's Jabba's partnership with Massive B founder Bobby Konders that continues to be his most fruitful endeavor. Continuing to contribute to the reggae community as new host of Pull Up Selecta, Tempo is thrilled to have this legend join its family.
Raise It Up
Jabba Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A chaba chaba, we made a chaba for the Master B Sounds
Barbie condoms
Liberty City
Russian mafia, ready? All right, no
Raise it up, ra ra, raise it up
Raise it up, ra ra, raise it up
Raise it up, ra ra, raise it up
Busse guns, pa pa, busse gun, no
Busse guns, pa pa, busse gun, no
Busse guns, pa pa, busse gun, no
Busse gun, no, busse gun, no
Sixteen in only a clip, and one in only a hand
You never try ghesta, but take you out of there
The lyrics of Jabba's song "Raise It Up" display a lot of braggadocio, violence, and criminal references. The opening verse describes a game of shooting and how they've made a "chaba" for the Master B Sounds. Barbie condoms, which are probably used as bullet casings, appear in the next line. The song then mentions Liberty City, which is a fictional city in the various games of the Grand Theft Auto series. The Russian mafia is also mentioned as ready, indicating that they are prepared for any combat situation. The main refrain of the song is simply "raise it up" repeated three times. The phrase might refer to raising weapons before a fight or increasing the stakes in their criminal activities.
The second verse talks about "busse" guns, which might be a grammatical error since there is no reference to such type of weapons in real life. It could also be a reference to the street slang for "busted," used to describe someone whose weapon is out of bullets or jammed. The verse repeats the same lines thrice and ends with "busse gun, no," suggesting that the group is ready to act immediately. The final verse mentions "sixteen in only a clip and one in only a hand," which probably refers to the size of ammunition magazine or a type of gun used to carry sixteen rounds plus an additional one in the chamber. The lyrics end with a warning: "You never try ghesta, but take you out of there." It suggests that while they might not be well-known, they are still a force to be reckoned with.
