'Cause your mama's all alone?
I have tried in vain
Never no more to call your name
When you left, you broke my heart
Because I never thought we'd part
Every hour in the day, you will hear me say
Baby, won't you please come home
'Cause your mama's all alone?
I have tried in vain
Never no more to call your name
When you left, you broke my heart
Because I never thought we'd part
Every hour in the day, you will hear your mama say
"Oh baby, won't you please come on home?"
Mama needs daddy, hey baby
Won't you please come home?
Jacinta's song "Baby Won't You Please Come Home" is an emotional plea to a lover who has left her feeling alone and heartbroken. In the opening verse, Jacinta begs for her lover to come back as her mother is left without anyone to comfort her. She claims to have tried her best to move on, but to no avail. The second verse goes on to describe how the lover's departure shattered her heart, coming as a complete surprise because she never expected that they would part. The refrain of the song, "Baby, won't you please come home?" is repeated throughout the song, driving home the message of the singer's loneliness and desperation for her lover's return.
The song is a classic example of early jazz and blues music, with its slow tempo and emotional delivery. "Baby Won't You Please Come Home" has been covered by several artists, including Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, and Louis Armstrong, among others. It was originally written by Charles Warfield and Clarence Williams in 1919, and was first recorded by Eva Taylor, a popular singer of the time. The song's theme of longing for a lost love has resonated with audiences for over a hundred years, and it remains a favorite among jazz and blues aficionados.
