Sunshine Of Your Love
Jack Bruce Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's getting near dawn when lights close their tired eyes
I'll soon be with you my love, give you my dawn surprise
I'll be with you darling soon
I'll be with you when the stars start falling

I've been waiting so long
To be where I'm going
In the sunshine of your love

I'm with you my love, the light's shining through on you
Yes, I'm with you my love, it's the morning and just we two
I'll stay with you darling now
I'll stay with you till my seas are dried up

I've been waiting so long
To be where I'm going
In the sunshine of your love

I'm with you my love, the light's shining through on you
Yes, I'm with you my love, it's the morning and just we two
I'll stay with you darling now
I'll stay with you till my seas are dried up

I've been waiting so long
I've been waiting so long
I've been waiting so long

To be where I'm going
In the sunshine of your love

Overall Meaning

Jack Bruce's "Sunshine of Your Love" is a ballad that portrays a passionate yearning for a person who is distant, with whom the singer wants to be united. The song begins with suggestive imagery of "lights clos[ing] their tired eyes" as it nears dawn, and the singer promises to give the object of his affection "my dawn surprise." The verses are repetitive, with a refrain in which the singer describes how he has been "waiting so long" to find his lover and bask in the "sunshine of [her] love."

The lyrics paint a picture of a final, euphoric reunion, with the singer promising to stay by his love's side until "my seas are dried up." The song communicates the longing that many people feel for someone they desire, and the relief and joy that comes with finally being with that person after a period of longing. The use of imagery like dawn and starfall further emphasizes the idea of the end of a long, dark period and the coming of light and hope.

RIP JACK! Gone yet never to be forgotten!

John Symon Asher Bruce (14 May 1943 – 25 October 2014) was a Scottish musician, singer and songwriter known primarily for his contributions to the British supergroup Cream, which also included the guitarist-singer Eric Clapton and the drummer Ginger Baker. In March 2011 Rolling Stone readers selected him as the eighth greatest bass guitarist of all time. "Most musicians would have a very hard time distinguishing themselves if they wound up in a band with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker," the magazine said at the time, "but Jack Bruce was so gifted on the bass that he did it with ease."

Bruce maintained a solo career that spanned several decades and also played in several musical groups. Although recognized first and foremost as a vocalist, bassistand songwriter, he also played double bass, harmonica, piano, cello and guitar. He was trained as a classical cellist and considered himself a jazz musician, although much of his catalogue of compositions and recordings tended toward rock and blues.

In 1981, Bruce collaborated with guitarist Robin Trower and released two power trio albums, B.L.T. and Truce,

In 2008, Bruce collaborated again with guitarist Robin Trower on the album Seven Moons. It also featured Husband.  Sadly like so many Jack died of liver disease. Bruce died of liver disease on 25 October 2014, in Suffolk, England, aged 71, SO
