I was so pleased to hear this. Singing with Jack and Ella Rose was heaven on earth.

Roderic Stephens

I agree. They were a couple of heavenly people in more ways than one, and it was a thrill to be able to be part on any of their ensembles. We made MUSIC!

Buddyroe Ginocchio

By far the best musical arrangement to Robert Frost's wonderful poem.

Roderic Stephens

Yes, Jack and EllaRose wrote gorgeous luscious arrangements that we all loved to sing, over and over. It was always a thrill.

Buddyroe Ginocchio

The mark of a great musical composition is to tell a wonderful story and set the mind frame of drawing the listener into the scene. Stopping by the Woods does just that, at the end the listener wonders may I return to the beginning and relive this dream.

Roderic Stephens

I saved your earlier kind comments that got discarded when I had to re-master the video for updated credits:

Mr. Stephens, you have tapped into a goldmine of beautiful choral music.

I have a question to which you may be able to answer. Are you familiar with an album "The Songs of Stephen Foster" by The John Halloran Singers? It is from the late 1980's. Anyway, would you know if John Halloran and Jack Halloran are one and the same?

Yes, I believe so, since quite a few of the selections on the 1956 Concertapes John Halloran recordings I have in my library ("Come to the Fair", "Songs of Stephen Foster") are the same arrangements we sang in warmup rehearsals of the Jack Halloran Choir at his church in the 60's. You'll also notice that the headstone on which I ended the video has John Thomas Halloran (Jack) as his name."

You also found this interesting blog from one of the Hallorans' daughters,
(http://ernienotbert.blogspot.com/2007/12/no-drumming-allowed.html) discussing the Hallorans:

"Nana said... (We think it was Molly Halloran Hills who wrote this)
Thank you for this wonderful space in which my father's music is so well loved and appreciated. It brings tears to my eyes to know there are so many others out there for which "Christmas Is-A-Comin' was such a Christmas staple and treasured Christmas memory. I am another of Jack's daughters. I just wanted to make a slight correction to one of your bloggers about "The Prince of Peace", which our mother wrote. Your bloggers words were dead on about about what a beautifully harmonized and dramatic piece this is. Her name was EllaRose, not Ella Mae, and she often composed the Sunday morning anthem with four days to work on it in time for Thursday night choir practice, incorporating the appropriate Scripture sermon title. She, as well as our father, was an incredibly gifted composer as well as accomplished and talented pianist and organist. They were both committed to teaching in order that others might share in the joy that really good music brings. They touched a lot of people in their lifetimes, sharing their love and knowledge of music. All who knew them loved and respected them, and that is a far greater legacy than any fame that would have been brought to our father had Harry Simeone not done what he did. Both Jack and EllaRose were laid to rest in a tiny town called Mount Hope, Kansas, where our mother was born and raised."
