Turn Your Love

I don't want you to go
But it's time to turn your love, give it back
It's time to turn your love, give it back
Give it back
Give it back
Let's not go to sleep tonight
It's not that it goes too fast
It's just that goes at all
And it's time to turn your love, give it back
And it's time to turn your love, give it back
And it's time to turn your love, give it back
Give it back, give it back, give it back
Give it back
Give it back
Give it back
Why should I be sad when I'm just you
Why should I be sad baby I'm with you
Why should I be sad when I'm just you
Why should I be sad baby I'm with
Baby I'm with you
Baby I'm with you
And it's time to turn your love, give it back
And it's time to turn your love, give it back
And it's time to turn your love, give it back
Give it back, give it back, give it back
Give it back, give it back, give it back
Give it back, give it back, give it back
Give it back, give it back, give it back
These lyrics in Jack Johnson's song "Turn Your Love" speak about letting go of someone you love. The first lines repeat "I don't want you to go" twice, indicating a desire to hold onto the relationship. However, the chorus says "it's time to turn your love, give it back," which implies that the singer knows it's time to end the relationship.
The second verse reveals that the singer doesn't want the other person to know they're having these thoughts. It seems like the singer is conflicted about the decision to end the relationship, as they sing "Let's not go to sleep tonight." The line "It's not that it goes too fast, it's just that it goes at all" seems to explain that the fear of the relationship ending is what makes it scary.
The bridge of the song has the lines "Why should I be sad when I'm just you? Why should I be sad baby I'm with you." These lines indicate that the singer feels like they're one and the same with the person they're in a relationship with, so their emotions are intertwined. Ultimately, the song seems to be about the realization that a relationship has run its course and recognizing that it's time to move on.

I literally had no idea this song was about his dad. “Why should I be sad when I’m just you.” And then probably thinking about looking at his dads grand child “baby I got you.” Can’t stop crying. Love you dad!
