1. Jack Jones (born Jan. 14, 1938, in Hollywood, Calif.) is a traditional pop singer, perhaps best known for his songs "I've Got Your Number" and "Wives and Lovers". The only son of actors Allan Jones and Irene Hervey, he released his first album in 1959 on Capitol Records, but he didn't find success until he moved to Kapp Records in the early 60s. During that decade, he was rated highly by contemporaries such as Frank Sinatra. Judy Garland even reportedly called him the best jazz singer in the world, though Jones was always a straight pop singer (even with contemporary material) and merely ventured in the direction of jazz. He has won two Grammy Awards.
Having toured for decades since his 60s heyday, Jones still performs concerts around the world and remains popular on the casino circuit. Many of his tunes are included in various mutli-artist compliation albums. Some of his best-known songs are "The Impossible Dream," " "Wives And Lovers" (1964 Grammy Award, Best Pop Male Performance)," "The Race Is On," "Lollipops and Roses" (1962, Grammy Award, Best Pop Male Performance), "Lady," and "The Love Boat Theme".

This Could Be The Start Of Something Big

Or else you're alone and then you suddenly dig,
You're looking' in someone's eyes, you suddenly realize
That this could be the start of something big.
You're lunching at Twenty-One and watchin' your diet,
Declining a charlotte russe, accepting a fig,
When out of a clear blue sky, it's suddenly gal and guy,
There's no controlling the unrolling of your fate, my friend,
Who knows what's written in the magic book.
But when a lover you discover at the gate my friend,
Invite her in without a second look.
You're up in an aeroplane or dining at Sardi's,
Or lying at Malibu alone on the sand,
You suddenly hear a bell, and right away you can tell
That this could be the start of something grand.
This could be the start of something very big,
Why don't you play your part?
Please give your heart to me and see.
This could be the start of something wonderful,
Why don't you take a chance?
Just try romance with me and see.
Your watchin' the sun come up and countin' your money,
Or else in a dim cafe you're ordering wine,
Then suddenly there he is, and you wanna be where he is,
And this must be the start of something
This could be the heart of something
This could be the start of something big.
In the song "This Could Be the Start of Something," Jack Jones sings about those moments when we suddenly realize that we could be on the cusp of something exciting and life-changing. The song describes various scenarios, both mundane and glamorous, in which unexpected encounters with people could lead to something grand. The opening verses set the tone by describing everyday situations of walking down the street, being at a party, or lunching at a restaurant, being confronted by the possibility of a new romance. The song suggests that we cannot control our fate and that life's biggest moments are often unexpected.
The song's upbeat tempo and optimistic lyrics make it an enduring jazz standard, recorded by many artists since its first release in 1957. It was written by Steve Allen, who was both a comedian and a popular TV host in the 1950s. Allen wrote the song specifically for Jones to launch his career, and it became Jones's breakthrough hit. The song's popularity reached a new peak in the 1960s when a swingin' instrumental version by Buddy Rich stayed on the charts for months.
