Sing You Sinners
Jack Purvis and His Orchestra Lyrics

Listen to what I say
Moanin' and groanin'
Won't drive those blues away
Lift up your voices in song
You know you've all done wrong
You sinners, drop everything
Up to Heaven
And sing, you sinners
Just wave your arms all about
And let the Lord hear you shout
Pour the music right out
And sing, you sinners
Whenever there's music
The Devil kicks
He don't allow music
By the river Styx
You're wicked and you're depraved
And you've all misbehaved
If you wanna be saved
Well, sing, you sinners
Well, up until now
I've been asking you singers to sing
But if you can't sing, dance
C'mon band, swing
Swing, swing, swing
Swing, you sinners
Swing, swing, swing
Swing, you sinners
Whenever there's music
The Devil kicks
He don't allow music
By the river Styx
You're wicked and you're depraved
And you've all misbehaved
If you wanna be saved
If you wanna be saved
Well, sing, you sinners
The song "Sing You Sinners" by Jack Purvis and His Orchestra is a call to all sinners to lift up their voices in song and eliminate their blues. The first paragraph of the lyrics suggests that moaning and groaning will not solve their problems. The second paragraph encourages the sinners to drop everything and sing in harmony to reach heaven. The following paragraph continues in the same vein, urging the sinners to wave their arms about and shout out loud to pour the music right out.
The fourth paragraph asserts that whenever there's music, the Devil kicks, and he does not allow music by the river Styx. Therefore, singing and music can be a source of salvation for the sinners to be saved from the wickedness and depravity they have caused. The song ends with a call to action for the band to swing and the sinners to swing with the music.
Overall, the song is a light-hearted take on a serious issue, encouraging people to find joy and redemption in music and song, even if they have not always been on the right path. By emphasizing the power of music, the song suggests that harmony and togetherness can overcome even the most profound sadness and despair.

Atticus, how do you find these terrible things? God knows
I've been looking...

Terrible? You dislike it? Well, you can always find it online on bids and such. This record in particular is a rarity. I'm seeing one right now currently over $200 at bidding. Outrageous people. I almost paid $500 once. But considered I was crazy, and decided to let the other guy have it instead. The most expensive one I bought was a US copy of Ray Noble's "Midnight, the Stars and You" in prestine condition.
