Girl, you seem so far away
And my arms can try to keep you
But my heart knows it's too late
So if you need your freedom more
I won't stand in your way
But if it's not what you're looking for
My heart's a beat away
When you need my arms around you
If it all goes wrong
I'll be there
And when loneliness surrounds you
Not matter where
Oh, you know that I'll be there
I remember all the laughter
As we go our separate ways
But there's so much we're still learning
And we just can't be afraid
There's a world outside our door
And nothing's in our way
But if it's not what we're looking for
We'll meet again someday
I'll be there
When you need my arms around you
If it all goes wrong
I'll be there
And when loneliness surrounds you
Not matter where
And you know that I'll be there
I'll be there
When you need my arms around you
If it all goes wrong
I'll be there
And when loneliness surrounds you
Not matter where
Oh, you know that I'll be there
The lyrics of Jack Wagner's song "I'll Be There" describe a complicated relationship in which one of the partners seems distant and in need of freedom. The first verse sets the stage for this, with the singer observing the girl he loves while she is sleeping and feeling like she is distant from him even then. He acknowledges that his attempts to keep her close might not be enough, but his heart still wants her to know that he is always there for her. His offer of support is conditional: if the girl needs her freedom, he won't stand in her way, but if that's not what she wants, then he's there to stay.
The second verse takes a more optimistic turn as the singer remembers all the good times they shared in the past despite the fact that they may be going their separate ways. He urges the girl to take risks and explore the world outside their relationship, but also promises that they'll meet up again someday. The chorus repeats the reassuring message that no matter what happens, the singer will be there for the girl when she needs him.
The lyrics to "I'll Be There" strike a universal chord about the complexities of love and relationships, as well as the desire to provide support and comfort to those we care about. It also touches on themes of freedom, exploration, and personal growth.

And we just can't be afraid
And we shouldn't be fearful of what the future holds
There's a world outside our door
Because there's a whole world waiting for us to explore
And nothing's in our way
There's nothing stopping us from achieving our goals
We'll meet again someday
Someday we'll cross paths once more
