Listening to this makes me feel like I'm on a trek to a high mountain while the clouds are about to blanket the whole place

His composition skills were so mythic. His bass rudiment and theory was so in command he could stretch so deeply into the full palette and risk it all. The horn arrangement on this is his heart and beauty in a sunset.

That's the exact same thing that I also see and feel, and always has since I first heard it. A lush green mountain range, covered in mist an early summer morning.

Might I interest you in a small taste on how this masterpiece sounds with a steady, funky and distorted drumbeat? It was nevertheless great fun grooving to this song 🤩

I was driving my little 4 cyl alone on an empty road, and I realized the beats behind the song sound like a leaking gasket/exhaust valve LOL felt like I was driving an old beater :)

Jaco and his wife bought my childhood home from my parents in South Florida in 1979 when we moved north. Jaco gave me the sheet music for this piece; I was a French Horn player then. I wish I had tried to play it. I was always disappointed that there was no room for French Horn in jazz bands at the time. I have since lost the paper. RIP Jaco and Ingrid. @Tobin - hypnotic is the word. FYI, a new film is out on Jaco's life. Haven't seen it.

I'm sorry for your loss, and ours. Analog - the most basic being printed matter - is the most vital, precious and vulnerable. Protect your collections, whatever they are, whatever medium. YT is good, but each of us needs to preserve physically as much as possible what we've collected and value. We're short of life. Consider those you haven't educated yet.

Adrian Wible - it's most regretful that you lost that sheet music. Regardless of what it may, or may not be worth today, I would've, almost certainly, NOT sold it - like EVER! And I would've done my absolute BEST to NOT lose it, either! Although, I must admit, I'm a total clutz when it comes to keeping documentation in order - so, despite my best efforts, I probably would've lost it, too! This recording is like a "fine wine" that just keeps getting better with age.......the more I listen, the more I realize that Jaco's first album is timeless and a musical endeavor that is, at least in my opinion, up there with all the greatest music ever recorded in this genre. Best wishes to you, Mr. French Hornist! <g>

I can’t stop to listen at this Masterpiece, I Love the convoluted rhythmic and Harmonics and the Horn flying miles on top of it. Such a delightful contrast. I love it.
