Jacob William Hoggard (born July 9, 1984 in Burnaby, British Columbia) is a Canadian singer from Abbotsford, British Columbia. He finished in third place on the second season of Canadian Idol. He is currently the lead singer of Hedley.
Hoggard had auditioned for Canadian Idol at the urgings of his mother and girlfriend. He bet his bandmates $50 each that he would not make it past the first round of auditions. Hoggard lost the bet, making it to the final three with his unique sound, unorthodox antics, and stage presence. It should be noted that as the contest progressed, some people believed that Hoggard realized that he did not want to win Canadian Idol and be tied down with contracts and recordings that he had no control over. Instead, it is believed that Hoggard used the experience as a platform to promote himself and Hedley. Within hours of him being cut from the competition, Hedley reportedly received many contract offers.
They released their debut album on September 6th, 2005 and currently have five singles off of their self titled debut, "Villain", "On My Own", "Trip", "321", and their newest, "Gunnin'". A while before the release of their album, Hoggard changed every member of his band. The new members of Hedley are Chris Crippin, Tommy Mac, and Dave Rosin. They have also released a CD single for "On My Own" which includes the songs "On My Own" and "Johnny Falls", released on August 2nd, 2005 and has been recently certified Platinum. "On My Own" managed to hit number one the charts.
Hedley has been nominated for two Juno Awards in the categories of Rock Album Of The Year and New Group Of The Year.
Songs that Hoggard performed during Canadian Idol include:

She's a hard lovin' woman, got me feelin' mean
Sundown you better take care
If I find you been creepin' 'round my back stair
Sundown you better take care
If I find you been creepin' 'round my back stair
I can picture every move that a man could make
Sundown you better take care
If I find you been creepin' 'round my back stair
Sometimes I think it's a sin
When I feel like I'm winnin' when I'm losin again
She's been lookin like a queen in her faded jeans
But she don't only say what she really means
Sometimes I think it's a shame
When I get feelin' better when I'm feelin' no pain
Sundown you better take care
If I find you been creepin' 'round my back stair
Sundown you better take care
If I find you been creepin' 'round my back stair
The song "Sundown" by Jacob Hoggard is a cautionary tale about a hard-loving woman who has caught the attention of the singer. He observes her looking fast in her faded jeans, and warns others to be wary of her, as she is not to be taken lightly. The lyrics suggest that she may be involved with other men, evidenced by the reference to "creepin' 'round my back stair." The singer also hints at the danger of becoming lost in her loving, calling it a mistake.
The song's chorus repeats the warning to "take care" of sundown, implying that the danger she presents is ever-present. Despite the warnings and his awareness of her potentially harmful ways, the singer cannot resist her. He admits to feeling like a winner even when he is losing, suggesting that his attraction to her is potentially destructive.
Overall, the lyrics of "Sundown" paint a complex picture of a woman who is simultaneously alluring and dangerous. The singer's warnings to others serve as a way of distancing himself from her while also expressing his conflicting feelings towards her.
