Dylan Thomas

First time listening to this composer. Already impressed by his skill.

@Dylan Thomas Capilla Flamenca liked to make CDs, where there is a theme rather than a work around which the pieces are grouped. In this case the CD this mass movement comes from is called "Bellum et pax" (War and peace), it features the whole Ordinary of the mass interspersed with other music (as from the Ordinary of the mass only the Kyrie and Gloria are sung together, the Credo is sung after the sermon, the Sanctus is sung when the priest starts the transsubstantiation and the Agnus Dei is sung before the Communion.) On this CD Capilla Flamenca sings movements (all 5) from different masses all based on the "L'homme armé" (Armed man) melody. This is "Bellum" (war). The Kyrie-Gloria is taken from Obrecht, the Credo and Agnus Dei from Pierre de La Rue and the Sanctus from Josquin. They then sing different settings of the antiphon Da pacem Domine (Give us peace, Lord).

@pannonia77 is there any reason why certain a cappella groups sing certain portions of a mass? It doesn't make sense to only sing, say, the Kyrie and Gloria of Josquin's Missa Pange Lingua and leave out the Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei.

He was a contemporary of Josquin, one of the really great composers. Unfortunately Capilla Flamenca recorded only the Gloria of this mass..
