This first movement by Jacqueline Du Pré is my favorite moment of classical recording of all time. Its incredible how deep it came and got me in the guts. I never, to this day, heard anyone else play it better then her. This is pure genius.

Even Pablo Casals, who was your mentor and teacher, probably said that. I'm playing the lows of this cello concerto, but Jacqueline is playing the shallows I'll never reach. She was the queen of the cello and a goddess in this cello concerto unrivaled to this day

Having got a first Pressing Stereo copy of this famous 1965 Recording I was 9 years old in December of that year when this Recording came out and I bought it years later Second hand and after giving the LP Record a good clean and changing the innersleeve the Record sounds as though it has just come from the factory and Elgar was Born in Lower Broad Heath Worster on Tuesday June 2nd 1857 and Died on Friday February 23rd 1934 and after he died his Daughter Carris Ran Campaign to Raise the Money so the local Authority could buy the House where her Farther was Born and turn it into a Museum which is now Owned by the National-Trust

Mstislav Rostropovich about Jaqueline du Pre on Elgar's concerto: "I stayed away from the Elgar because I think of that piece as somewhat naïve. The theme from the slow movement sounds like it's about first love, so I think it's more appropriate for a young person. My pupil Jacqueline du Pré played it much better than I because I didn't have the fresh perspective that a piece like that requires"...

That is how that climax goes... the sharp pizzicato in the strings, the cello soloist has the high scale, and the orchestra comes roaring in with the theme. A magnificent moment in the music.
