This first movement by Jacqueline Du Pré is my favorite moment of classical recording of all time. Its incredible how deep it came and got me in the guts. I never, to this day, heard anyone else play it better then her. This is pure genius.

I totally agree.

Even Pablo Casals, who was your mentor and teacher, probably said that. I'm playing the lows of this cello concerto, but Jacqueline is playing the shallows I'll never reach. She was the queen of the cello and a goddess in this cello concerto unrivaled to this day
@DrunkOnRedWine
The greatest ever recording of Elgar's Cello concerto, played by the greatest. Mesmerisingly beautiful
@GoldinDr
I never would have thought this was a great concerto if I hadn't heard her interpretation of it.

Another great one! Thank you! You've created an important library of musical masterpieces!

Most of the comments here are about the wonderful performance of the Cello Concerto, but side B featuring Janet Baker is also a treasure. Starts at around 30:10

One of the very saddest music ever composed, if not the saddest, played by one of the foremost cellists of the 20th century. Thank you very much for sharing this sublime masterpiece.

Their have been many recordings of this piece of music. But there's only one.
