Days when the rains came
Down in the hollow,
Playin' a new game,
Laughing and a running hey, hey
Skipping and a jumping
In the misty morning fog with
Our hearts a thumpin' and you
You my brown eyed girl.
Whatever happened
To Tuesday and so slow
Going down the old mine
With a transistor radio
Standing in the sunlight laughing,
Hiding behind a rainbow's wall,
Slipping and sliding
All along the water fall, with you
My brown eyed girl,
You my brown eyed girl.
Do you remember when we used to sing,
Sha la la la la la la la la la la te da
So hard to find my way,
Now that I'm all on my own.
I saw you just the other day,
My how you have grown,
Cast my memory back there, Lord
Sometime I'm overcome thinking 'bout
Making love in the green grass
Behind the stadium with you
My brown eyed girl
You my brown eyed girl
Do you remember when we used to sing
Sha la la la la la la la la la la te da.
The song "Brown Eyed Girl" by Jacques De Coning explores the nostalgia of a past relationship and the memories associated with it. The singer reminiscences about the carefree days spent with his brown-eyed girl, laughing, running, and playing a new game in the misty morning fog. These experiences were unforgettable and left him with a pounding heart. The next stanza shifts the focus to a seemingly ordinary day, Tuesday, which previously felt slow but now feels like a distant memory. The singer mentions going down the old mine with a transistor radio, standing in the sunlight, laughing, and hiding behind a rainbow's wall. These moments were also significant and shared with his brown-eyed girl. The singer feels lost and alone, yearning for the past when he was with his brown-eyed girl.
In the third stanza, the singer finally sees his brown-eyed girl again but notices how much she has grown since they were last together. He is overwhelmed with memories of making love in the green grass behind the stadium, another unforgettable experience they shared. The final refrain "Sha la la la la la la la la la la te da" is a reminder of the carefree and joyous nature of their relationship. The song ends with the singer expressing his love and admiration for his brown-eyed girl.
