Overall Meaning

The song Honky Tonk Women by The Rolling Stones was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, and was released as a single in 1969. The song features Jagger on lead vocals and features a prominent slide guitar riff played by Richards. Yes, they are a greatest hits revue by now, the last album I really liked is "It's Only Rock'n'Roll." But one day they'll be like Mozart and Beethoven; you won't be able to see them live at all. So maybe we should just enjoy the fact that they produced a few good live renditions recently, like this one. I thought that if Keith was still alive at 70 he would be sitting on a chair onstage, playing blues songs. I find this a bit amazing. Hope it's not faked (guitarist backstage doing the real playing?).

That's simply not true..sorry..just going through You Tube only you'll find dozens and dozens of guitarists that easily blow Keith & Ronnie away...look they are a great band , world class, with a song library that's unbelievable..but as far as creative writing ??..they've not brought out any memorable new song in decennia..thats ok..muscians ?? Miles Davis had Darryl Jones in his band, he would never have put Wood or Richards next to him, and Jones is not even a " Rolling Stone"..just put on a DVD of them from years ago..they played far better and tighter..but sure they draw in millions of fans..more power to them..but their outrageous concert prices are a scandal..Mick and Keith both have each more than $ 500 million and near 80 yrs old..how much more money do they need for their remaining years ??..let them..its great, fans love them..i like them..am also 70 now..but give me The Allman Brothers anyday..that guitar duo plays rings around Keith and Ronnie..been around also for countless years..but $ 35 gets you a decent seat..not $ 100 + what the Stones ask..

@Seltaeb as a former drummer.. believe me enthusiasm/excitement/youth & nerves usually results in live blues based rock music being played way too fast.. listen to the original recordings for the proper tempo.. live its nearly always too fast.. but here they got it right..

Thx for posting these videos matt Lee. They are totally amazing. As a guitarist, it has been the greatest thing for me to watch these front row/high def videos. I can finally see what Keith and Ronnie are doing on their guitars/fretboards. I’ve learned so much about Keith’s open G tuning (Honky Tonk Women) and Ronnie’s slide playing. Amazingly helpful. You the man!
Has anyone else noticed that the loudest applause of the night is usually reserved for Keith Richard’s guitar solo on “honky tonk women”? It never fails to amaze me. Thunderous.

For my case, music is good for the emotion it gives me. It may not be technically perfect, but I don’t care. It can be technically perfect and provide no emotion. Every receiver will feel it differently. Sometimes we have both… Rock may be about simple chords but deserves as much esteem as jazz, which is much more sophisticated: I love the Stones, Jeff Beck, who is in a class of his own, Coltrane and Miles, Vivaldi and many others. And when I play guitar, as an amateur, I feel very humble versus Keef and his highlighted mistakes…..

I just don't understand having to go out of your way to knock something if you don't like it. I won't argue that the Stones were great TECHNICAL musicians or anything; but you know, if you want to stick your comment in about things just because deep down inside you're jealous that you're a better technical musician than them; yet not NEARLY as successful; that's perfectly your right. @scrimmerman for me they were never professional musicians .playing in time precisely makes a groove/drive/swing! Rolling Stones never had it ! their arrangement is just a noise comparing to beatles where every song had a dedicated arrangement and ideas! nothing like that exist in Rolling Stones!
