Better Days
Jaie Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I would never break free
If I didn't leave you
Things would only happen
If we just followed through
And we should
Let it show

You know, you know
I've had my better days and
You've had your better days too
You know, you know
I've had my better days and
You've had your better days too, oh, oh, oh, yeah

Sippin' on your worries
Let it seep through
Smoke away and trust me
Don't say much we'll just do
As we choose
To let it show

You know, you know
I've had my better days and
You've had your better days too
You know, you know
I've had my better days and
You've had your better days too, oh, oh, oh, yeah

You've had your better days too, oh, oh, oh, yeah
You've had your better days too

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Jaie's "Better Days" speak to a common human experience of feeling limited by one's current circumstances and the need to break free in order to see positive change. The opening lines of the song, "I would never break free / If I didn't leave you," suggest that the singer has recognized the need to move beyond a relationship or situation that was holding them back. The subsequent lines, "Things would only happen / If we just followed through / And we should / Let it show," indicate that the singer recognizes the importance of taking action and being true to oneself in order to make positive change happen.

The chorus of the song emphasizes the relatable concept of having both good and bad days: "You know, you know / I've had my better days and / You've had your better days too / You know, you know / I've had my better days and / You've had your better days too." The repetition of the phrase "you know" suggests a sense of empathy between the singer and the listener, as if to say that everyone goes through difficult times, but acknowledging those tough moments can bring about healing and growth.

The second verse of the song, with its mentions of sipping and smoking, suggests a possible coping mechanism for dealing with stress and worry. But even as the singer indulges in these habits, they still recognize the importance of taking action and making choices that allow them to show their true selves. The repeated use of the phrase "let it show" throughout the song emphasizes this idea of being authentic and transparent in one's actions and choices.

Overall, "Better Days" is a song that speaks to the universal experience of struggling with difficult times but ultimately finding a path forward through authenticity and action.

For anyone who wants to learn this on guitar:

Shes basically doing FMaj7 - Fmin7 - Emin7 - Gmin7 - C (triad)

She adds some licks in the chords. You can just play around with it. But anyway these are the basic chords She does them in the higher frets as seen in the video. It doesn't sound as good if you do these chords at the first fret.
