Ugly
Jaira burns Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(Mistah)
Sitting in the corner sipping on his gin
(Mistah)
Must be my good karma, it brought me next to him
(Mistah)
He said he like the color when he look in my eye
(Mistah)
His lips are like nirvana, his kiss is paradise

He likes role play and talk dirty, keep me up 'til four thirty
Play Marco Polo, feeling 'round with his eyes closed
Call me Cleopatra, make me watch in the mirror
Don't wanna say, "Told you so"

But, ah ah ah, ah ah ah
As long as you love me, this could get ugly
Ah ah ah, ah ah ah
Yeah baby, trust me, this could get ugly, protect me

It's fucking good, real fucking good
It's fucking good, loving me like you should
Ah ah ah, ah ah ah
Yeah, baby, trust me, this could get ugly

(Mistah)
Honeymoon is over, roses on the floor
(Mistah)
Screaming and accusing, calling me a whore
(Mistah)
Your words are shaking me, leaving me with lies
(Mistah)
We're on a trampoline and soon we're gonna crash

But, ah ah ah, ah ah ah
As long as you love me, this could get ugly
Ah ah ah, ah ah ah
Yeah baby, trust me, this could get ugly, protect me

It's fucking good, real fucking good
It's fucking good, loving me like you should
Ah ah ah, ah ah ah
Yeah, baby, trust me, this could get ugly

But, ah ah ah, ah ah ah
As long as you love me, this could get ugly
Ah ah ah, ah ah ah
Yeah baby, trust me, this could get ugly, protect me

It's fucking good, real fucking good
It's fucking good, loving me like you should

Ah ah ah, ah ah ah
Yeah, baby, trust me, this could get ugly

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Jaira Burns's song Ugly explore the complex dynamic of a tumultuous relationship. The song starts with the singer meeting a man, Mistah, who takes an interest in her. He talks about liking the color of her eyes and how his kiss is like paradise. The singer enjoys his attention and is willing to engage in role play and other sexual activities with him. However, she adds the caveat that even though he is good, it could still get ugly.

As the song progresses, the relationship takes a turn, and the singer's partner becomes possessive and jealous. He accuses her of being unfaithful and calls her a whore, leaving her feeling shaken and full of lies. The singer knows that their dynamic is unstable, and they are on a metaphorical trampoline and will soon crash. However, even though she acknowledges the potential for things to turn ugly, she still wants to trust her partner and be protected by him.

The song's lyrics paint a picture of a relationship where the line between love and destruction is blurred. The singer is willing to endure the lows of the relationship as long as her partner continues to love her, even if it gets ugly.

New Jaira fan here. She nailed the high notes in Pop/Stars and is the star of the chorus. A little disappointed that most people overlook her contribution and just assume she didn't sing a lot in it.
After listening to this a couple of times, I am pretty sure she sang the opening line as well.

@kennedyables

It's sadly because they didn't animate Kai'sa in a more prominent way. I kept watching for her lips, but never saw where they "let her sing", which is a shame because Jaira did.

@jhinpotion9230

Kai'Sa didn't get a, "bit," in the video the way the others did.
Jaira's vocals kill it.

@philiplsophie

@@kennedyables anyone who listens carefully can hear it's not the other three's voices that is hitting the high notes even if they are not familiar with Jaira. I think riot just wanted to focus on the "lead dancer" part of Kai'sa but yeah they should have a scene or two of Kai'sa singing.
