So Long
Jake & the Spitfires Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

So long my friend I’m gone
I’m on the edge I’m done
Hopefully I don’t see you today
When I die would you spit on my grave
So long my friend I’m gone
I’m on the edge I’m done
Hopefully I don’t see you today
When I die would you spit on my grave
I could live this life alone or I Could live it with you
But I can’t seem to fucking cope If I’m alone or with you
What the fuck am I gonna do
What the fuck is wrong with you Now
Babygirl I’m talkin to you
Why do everybody hate on me Now
(So long)
(I’m gone)
(Hopefully I don’t see you today)
So long my friend I’m gone
I’m on the edge I’m done
Hopefully I don’t see you today
When I die would you spit on my grave
So long my friend I’m gone
I’m on the edge I’m done
Hopefully I don’t see you today

When I die would you spit on
my grave

Overall Meaning

The lines "I could live this life alone or I could live it with you / But I can't seem to fucking cope if I'm alone or with you / What the fuck am I gonna do / What the fuck is wrong with you now / Babygirl I'm talkin to you / Why do everybody hate on me now" suggest that the singer is struggling with a relationship that is causing them a great deal of stress and uncertainty.

The repetition of the lines "So long" and "I'm gone" throughout the song suggest a sense of finality and closure. The line "When I die would you spit on my grave" is particularly striking, as it seems to suggest that the singer believes that their life has been so meaningless and insignificant that no one will mourn their passing. The lines "What the fuck am I gonna do / What the fuck is wrong with you now / Babygirl I'm talkin to you / Why do everybody hate on me now" suggest that the singer is struggling with interpersonal relationships, perhaps with a significant other, and is feeling isolated and unsupported by those around them.

Thanks for the timestamps. Out of curiosity, what do like most? For me, I think the Lexicon PCM has the smoothest and fullest reverb tail.

This is exactly like a wine tasting

@Arthur Allsopp These guys have worked on plenty, and have collaborated on their sampling with Hans Zimmer, just like JunkieXL. They're just giving their honest views. I don't think we can say for sure what reverbs someone has or hasn't used.

Gravy tasting

They got paid for this in some way bud. JunkieXL does not use one of these reverbs and has scored a few more films then these guys.
