He was born in Nottingham to musical parents who separated when he was young. His father, David Bugg, was a nurse and his mother worked in sales, both parents having previously made recordings. He grew up in the Clifton council estate of Nottingham and started playing guitar at the age of 12 after being introduced to the instrument by his uncle Mark. He attended Farnborough School Technology College in Clifton. He has described a formative musical moment when, aged 12, he heard Don McLean's "Vincent (Starry, Starry Night)" on an episode of The Simpsons. He was enrolled in a music technology course but, by the age of 16, he had dropped out and was writing and performing his own songs.
Country Song
Jake Bugg Lyrics

So I can cry your name and call you when I'm sad
When you have gone, run so far from me in the trees so far
Walkin' down that old country lane, drops of rain
Call upon the ones who call your name
Will I see you again and please just come on back home to me
So I'm not all alone
Gonna sing you an old country song, from the heart
From the strings of this old rusty guitar
Jake Bugg's "Country Song" is a sentimental ballad about longing for a lost love. The opening lines set the tone for the rest of the song, as Bugg promises to sing an "old country song" from the heart in order to express the depth of his emotions to his former lover. He acknowledges that she has left him, and he is left alone to contemplate his sadness. The lyrics are poignant and powerful, with phrases like "cry your name and call you" and "run so far from me in the trees so far" conjuring powerful images of loss and loneliness.
As the song continues, Bugg takes listeners down a path of memories, thinking back to the days when he and his love walked down "that old country lane" and heard "drops of rain." He wonders if he will ever see her again, and begs her to come back home to him in order to ease his loneliness.
In conclusion, "Country Song" is a beautiful testament to the power of music to express deep emotions, and a powerful ode to love and loss.

He's timeless. His words. His voice. His looks. He doesn't look like he's from this age, this life. Like he is so above our troubles and worries from the 2000s.. like he lives on an old country farm in Alabama in 1979.
