Seen It All
Jake Bugg Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

One Friday night I took a pill or maybe two
Down at the car park I saw everyone I knew
And before the night had started we had planned to crash a party
Just a place that someone knew a local house belonging to a gangsters crew
And at the door they shone a light into my face
Have to admit I felt a little out of place
But I made my way inside past a thousand crazy eyes
Then a friend took me aside said everyone here has a knife

I've seen it all
I've seen it all now
I swear to god I've seen it all
Nothing shocks me anymore after tonight

Those little doves had sent my mind and heart a-beating
To say I felt weird really doesn't need repeating
I could sense the mounting tension the atmosphere of violence
And then they took a guy out side and someone stabbed him with a knife

I've seen it all
I've seen it all now I swear to god
I've seen it all nothing shocks me anymore after tonight

I've seen it all
I've seen it all now
I've seen it all,
I've seen it all now I swear to god

I've seen it all nothing shocks me anymore after tonight
I've seen the light but not the kind I would have liked

Overall Meaning

The song "Seen It All" by Jake Bugg is a powerful commentary on the desensitization that often results from being exposed to violence and drugs. The lyrics describe a night when the singer took a pill and ended up at a party thrown by a gangster crew. As soon as he arrived, he felt out of place, and a friend later warned him that everyone at the party had a knife. Despite the mounting tension and atmosphere of violence, the singer stayed at the party and watched as someone was stabbed.

Through the use of visceral language and simple, repetitive lyrics, Bugg creates a sense of numbness and resignation in the singer. By the end of the song, he claims to have "seen it all" and that nothing shocks him anymore. This transformation from naïve observer to hardened participant underscores the power of exposure to violence and the impact it can have on an individual's psyche.

Overall, "Seen It All" is a stark and thought-provoking exploration of the ways in which we adapt to traumatic experiences. The song encourages listeners to consider how exposure to violence can shape one's worldview, and to think critically about the systems that perpetuate such cycles of harm.

I've seen it all now
I've seen everything now

I swear to god I've seen it all
I assert that I've seen everything with my own eyes

Nothing shocks me anymore after tonight
After that night, I'm desensitized to anything that may ordinarily be disturbing

I've seen the light but not the kind I would have liked
I've encountered an enlightening experience but not one that I desired

One friday night, I took a pill or maybe two
Down at the car park, I saw everyone I knew
And before the night was started
We had planned to crash a party
Just a place that someone knew
A local house belonging to a gangster’s crew

And at the door they shone a light into my face
Have to admit I felt a little out of place
But I made my way inside
Past a thousand crazy eyes
Then a friend took me aside
Said everyone here has a knife

I've seen it all, I've seen it all now
I swear to god I’ve seen it all
Nothing shocks me any more after tonight

Those little doves had sent my mind and heart a-beating
To say I felt weird really doesn't need repeating
I could sense the mounting tension
The atmosphere of violence
And then they took a guy outside
And someone stabbed him with a knife

I've seen it all, I've seen it all now
I swear to god I’ve seen it all
Nothing shocks me any more after tonight

I've seen it-all, I've seen it all now
I've seen it all, I've seen it all now
I swear to god I’ve seen it all
Nothing shocks me any more
After tonight I’ve seen the light
But not the kind I would’ve liked

This song caused the biggest butterfly effect in my life.
I remember being 12 (I'm 19 now) when that song came up on MTV and I just completely fell in love with music.
That's why I bought my first guitar and that's why I'm a musician today.
Jake Bugg will always be my favorite artist.
