Daddy's Eyes
Jake Coco Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

They say she's got her daddy's eyes.
She hides'em well behind her momma's smile.
They say she knows she's beautiful.

They say she's got her daddy's heart;
And she can't hide it when there's nowhere else to start.
They say she knows she's beautiful.
But that won't get her anywhere today.

And she says daddy I know your listening.
Daddy I know You're there.
Cuz I've been talking with angels.
And they tell me that you still care.

They say she's got her daddy's pride.
She walks around all day with her head held up so hight.
They say she knows she's beautiful.
But that won't get her anywhere today.

And she says daddy I know your listening.
Daddy I know You're there.
Cuz I've been talking with angels.
And they tell me that you still care.

But now she's growing up, she's moving on,
She needs someone to tell her why.
The grass is green, the sky is blue, it's all ok I'm here for you.
She's growing up, she's moving out,
She needs someone so she screams and shouts she says
Daddy can, daddy can, you hear me?

And she says daddy I know your listening.
Daddy I know You're there.
Cuz I've been talking with angels.
And they tell me that you still care.

They say she's got her daddy's charm.
Yeah, she could make the lights on Broadway shine,
And she could truly be a star.
They say she knows she's beautiful,
But that wont get her anywhere, today...

Overall Meaning

In "Daddy's Eyes" by Jake Coco, the lyrics describe a young girl who is said to have her father's eyes, heart, pride, and charm. Although she is aware of her beauty, the song hints that it is not enough to get her anywhere in life. She hides her emotions behind her mother's smile, but she can't hide her heart when she has nowhere else to start. The chorus reveals that the girl talks to angels and believes that her daddy is listening and still cares for her. The song concludes with the girl growing up and moving out but still yearning for her daddy's presence in her life.

The lyrics suggest that the girl has inherited the best traits from her father, but it's also implied that he is absent from her life. The belief that her father is listening and still cares for her is a source of comfort for her, but it's also a reminder of his absence. The song touches on the themes of fatherhood, absence, and the importance of having a father figure in one's life. It also highlights the struggles faced by a daughter who longs for her father's presence and attention.

When my dad passed away this song was playing on repeat all day everyday.

This is probably the best song I've ever heard involving a girl who's lost her dad. When I sing along I can't make it past "Daddy, I know you're listening," without breaking down. Don't even get me started on the achingly beautiful reprise of the chorus. You managed to capture that blend of loss, of hope, of longing, etc., that comes with losing someone. Thank you for this. You've helped me remember that my Daddy is listening.

I had the same feelings while listening to this song. Lost my dad last year. Thank you for putting it in words <3

@TMrozinski

This song reminds me of my niece who lost her Daddy (my brother) in 2002 in a car accident. She just completed her first year of college, and even if she doesn't have her daddy's eyes.. she is beautiful no matter what. Thanks for this song. :)

@Yossus

so beautiful... this song expresses perfectly why people want to be parents... it's about having someone who carries on parts of yourself when you're gone

@ngdj999

I lost my dad to cancer when I was only 3 years old. Fatherless ever since then. Never seen an angel either. But this song is the sweetest ever.

Absolutely beautiful!!  -   Seems like it was written for of our precious nephew, Daniel who is watching over his daughter from Heaven.  His beautiful daughter has her Daddy's eyes.  God Bless you for this amazing song.!!!!
