from Weston, Florida who has had a meteoric rise in the music industry. In January of 2011 the
multi-talented musician who taught himself to play the drums and guitar at a young age, put out
a few homemade music videos on YouTube which immediately created a buzz and attracted the
attention of music business insiders who began to guide Jake on his journey.
Ever since Jake Miller began posting his original songs on YouTube a few years ago, the 21-year-old Miami-born pop artist has been building a virtual army of fans. His millions of social media community followers call themselves the Millertary and come to his concerts wearing camouflage and greasepaint under their eyes. They are devoted to Millerโs irresistible musical blend of pop and hip-hop, combined with the positive messages in his songs.
Miller has independently released two EPโs: 2012โs Spotlight and 2013โs The Road Less Traveled, which debuted at No. 1 on the iTunes Hip-Hop chart. His full-length album, 2013โs Us Against Them, sold over 33,000 copies and peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Rap chart. One of MTVโs 2014 โOnes to Watchโ artists, Miller has shared stages with Mac Miller, Flo Rida, Sean Kingston, Asher Roth, Jason Derulo, Cody Simpson, Austin Mahone, and Sammy Adams at various radio festivals, including Y-100โs Jingle Ball and the Calle Ocho Festival in Miami, where he performed for a crowd of more than 200,000 screaming fans. He also sold out a 43-city House of Blues Tour before a major record deal, driven primarily by his incredible social-networking presence.
Now Miller is set to extend his reach even further, having signed to Warner Bros. Records, and will release his new single โFirst Flight Homeโ on July 5th. Produced by Danish songwriter-producer Cutfather (The Wanted), the track is an irresistible calling card for Miller, who credits Eminem, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and Drake as inspirations. Hailing from the South Florida community of Weston, Miller began rapping when he was 17, but began to take it more seriously a year later when his YouTube videos caught the attention of local news and radio stations. This led to his first-ever live performance โ a plum slot opening for Snoop Dogg in 2011.
Having built the Millertary on his own, Miller is looking forward to seeing what he can achieve with the support of Warner Bros. Records behind him. โItโs obviously a dream come true,โ he says. โThe night that I signed my record deal we released a video with my family and friends in it, popping champagne and celebrating, it was the greatest night of my life.โ
Parties

'Cause I'm afraid to see you
When I open up the door
Standing there with my replacement
Laughing and smiling
While inside I'm dying
So I don't go to parties anymore
I got the, text message with the place and time
But she, probably get the same text so I can't go
'Cause I can't see her face right now
'Cause if I do I know I might break down
And I'm not tryna make a scene guess I'll stay home
Maybe next week I'll be ready
To get dressed up and fake a smile
But I think she's moved on already
So you won't see me for a while
'Cause I don't go to parties anymore
'Cause I'm afraid to see you
When I open up the door
Standing there with my replacement
Laughing and smiling
While inside I'm dying
So I don't go to parties anymore, no
Uh, yeah
You're probably in your room right now
When you getting ready for a long night out
And you probably look so good 'cause you always do (always do
Or maybe you're staying back home too
'Cause you feel the same way that I do
You should pick up the phone and call me if that's true
Maybe next week I'll be ready
To get dressed up and fake a smile
But I think she's moved on already
So you won't see me for a while
'Cause I don't go to parties anymore
'Cause I'm afraid to see you
When I open up the door
Standing there with my replacement
Laughing and smiling
While inside I'm dying
So I don't go to parties anymore
The lyrics to Jake Miller's song "Parties" express the singer's reluctance to attend social gatherings, specifically parties, due to the fear of encountering their ex-lover. The opening lines highlight the emotional turmoil the singer experiences at the thought of seeing their ex with a new partner. The sight of them together, appearing happy and carefree, is a painful reminder of their own internal suffering and heartbreak.
The lyrics evoke a sense of vulnerability and insecurity as the singer describes how they are unable to face the reality of their ex moving on. The fear of breaking down if they were to see their ex-lover's face reflects their deep emotional attachment and the difficulty of letting go. This fear prevents them from attending parties altogether, as they believe that encountering their ex in such a setting would only intensify their pain and emotional turmoil.
The second verse explores the possibility that the ex-lover might also be experiencing similar emotions. The singer imagines their ex getting ready for a night out, possibly looking their best, but wonders if they might also be hiding their true feelings and avoiding the party. The mention of the ex potentially feeling the same way suggests that there might still be some lingering connection between them. The lyrics express a longing for communication and a desire for the ex-lover to reach out, indicating a potential hope for reconciliation or closure.
Overall, "Parties" delves into the complexities of post-breakup emotions and the struggle to move on. It captures the fear of encountering an ex-lover with someone new and the internal battle between wanting to avoid those situations yet yearning for some form of connection or understanding.
