Step right up
Jamai Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Who am I?
To ask from you
To leave it all behind
Who am I?
Just a selfish guy
No one you should trust
Step right up, walk right in
Rock this crazy world I'm living in
If love ain't foolish nothing is
I'm dying for your kiss
Step right up, walk right in
Walk all over me and set me free
Come on
It's a shame to let it go
We both know it's right
It's a shame and let this be
Another wasted night
Step right up, walk right in
Rock this crazy world I'm living in
If love ain't foolish nothing is
I'm dying for your kiss
Step right up, walk right in
Walk all over me and set me free
Earth shaking, breath taking, love making baby
Don't tell me, no tell me that, tell me baby
I'm checking in, checking out
Baby, I'm your man
Oooohhh
Come on
Step right up, walk right in
Rock this crazy world I'm living in
Step right up, walk right in
If love ain't foolish nothing is

I'm dying for your kiss
Come on

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Jamaican-American singer Jamai's song "Step right up" speaks from the perspective of a man who is struggling to express his love and fears chasing away the person he feels for. He questions his worth and wonders why anyone would abandon their current situation for him. He admits to being selfish and untrustworthy, but perhaps his love is strong enough to overcome these flaws. He beckons the person to come closer and "walk right in," to join him in his "crazy world" and "rock" it together. He seems willing to submit himself completely to the other person, allowing them to "walk all over" him and set him free, as long as it means being with them. However, he also recognizes that if the love they share is not viewed as "foolish," then he doesn't know what is. He closes the song with an invitation for the listener to join him and indulge in the experience of love together.

Overall, the lyrics paint a picture of the vulnerability and insecurity that comes with falling in love, as well as the desire to give oneself wholly to one's beloved. It also highlights the fact that love can be unexpected and irrational, and asks us to question if we're willing to take the leap of faith for that special someone.

Gosh I was 19 back then and had a chance to watch the whole session of Holland Idol 1. I love both Jamai and Jim, they were gorgeous. I had a picture with Jamai when he made a visit to an eye-glass store in Rotterdam, but it was washed away by tsunami when I headed back home. This song is superb and so full of energy. Good Job Jamai

@Ilsecool90

@DutchGuyMike

Hah, geweldig, hier ook!

@Japperzz6

@jonnnnniej

@lovetico4ever

@AngelGirl023
