Afterwards she retired (temporarily) from music business to give birth to a baby girl in March 2001. While bringing up her daughter Teja, Jamelia made plans for a comeback and in 2003 her sophomore album Thank You was released. The album went top 5 in the UK and sold over half a million copies. It featured her fifth top 40 hit, "Superstar", a cover of Danish singer Christine Milton's song, which gave her international success in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The single shot to #1 in Australia and was certified "platinum". Follow up single “Thank You” went to number 2 in the UK and the track “See It In A Boy’s Eyes” which was co-written with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin also entered the top 5.
That year Jamelia won a record breaking three MOBO awards, winning all of the awards that she was nominated for and she was also one of the nominees for the Mercury Music Prize which celebrates the best of British music.
In the autumn of 2004 she also was asked to contribute to the Band Aid 20 single "Do They Know It's Christmas?". She had a big role in the song, singing with fellow British singer Will Young. She also recorded the theme song for the second Bridget Jones movie, a cover of Sam Brown’s song “Stop”. Like her previous songs this also went top 10.
Her third album, "Walk With Me" is out in the shops now, and features the hit singles "Something About You" and "Beware Of The Dog", which samples 'Personal Jesus' by Depeche Mode.
Know My Name

I was dressed to impress, you know how I gets down
Every guy that I passed looked at my ass like, "Whoa"
And this one in particular couldn't hold it down, he said
'Hi, do you wanna go for a ride?'
I got it all, I'll give it to you, I'll give it to you?
I said, 'You're promising the world'Thinking better make me your girl
But if promises are comfort to a bull
And you don't know my name?
Is it some guys are idiots?
Think their dumb lines are getting me
Ladies if you're with me, let 'em know
They gotta up their game
You better brush up your etiquette
A girl like me, you'll never get
Think you're gonna win it but you won't
Don't even know my name
Now me and my girls are ringing at the hottest bar
And their ain't no doubt, it going on is what we got
Now this boy slides over here like he's on roller skates
Puts his lips to my ear, one hand around my waist, he says
'Girl, I wanna make you my world'
And all I have, I give it to you, I give it to you
And I say, 'Baby boy, you failed'
Tonight you made no sale
Cause my promises are comfort to a bull
And you don't know my name
Is it some guys are idiots?
Think their dumb lines are getting me
Ladies if you're with me, let 'em know
They gotta up their game
You better brush up your etiquette
A girl like me, you'll never get
Think you're gonna win it but you won't
Don't even know my name
Don't wanna be too hard on you fellas, fellas, fellas
I just wanna teach you a lesson
Don't need to know what you're sittin' on, no I don't need to
All you gotta do is get to know my name
Is it some guys are idiots?
Think their dumb lines are getting me
Ladies if you're with me, let 'em know
They gotta up their game
You better brush up your etiquette
A girl like me, you'll never get
Think you're gonna win it but you won't
Don't even know my name
Is it some guys are idiots?
Think their dumb lines are getting me
Ladies if you're with me, let 'em know
They gotta up their game
You better brush up your etiquette
A girl like me, you'll never get
Think you're gonna win it but you won't
Don't even know my name
Ladies if you're with me, let 'em know
They gotta up their game
You better brush up your etiquette
A girl like me, you'll never get
Think you're gonna win it but you won't
Don't even know my name
In Jamelia's song Know My Name, the artist talks about being approached by men who try to win her over with empty promises and cheesy pickup lines. She describes how she dresses to impress and how men go crazy over her, but she doesn't want to be won over easily. She wants to be respected and valued for who she is and not just for her body. Jamelia uses the metaphor of promises being comfort to a bull to convey that she sees through these tricks, and she wants men to up their game and show her that they are interested in her as a person, not just as eye candy.
The song empowers women to demand respect and not settle for anything less. Jamelia urges men to be more respectful and to get to know women for who they are, rather than just trying to impress them with false promises. She also advises women not to be fooled by shallow tactics and to require meaningful connections.
Overall, Know My Name is an engaging and fun song about self-respect and self-worth that encourages both men and women to give and receive respect.
