Hailing from Hitchin, Hertfordshire, Bay gained a reputation thanks to stints at Communion's monthly night at Notting Hill Arts Club in London and a successful run of support slots with Tom Odell, John Newman and Kodaline. He issued his debut EP, The Dark of the Morning, in 2013, with a second extended player, Let It Go, and a third extended player, Hold Back the River, arriving the following year.
In May 2018, Bay released his second studio album, Electric Light.
When We Were on Fire

Days getting dark and the nights are growing cold
Are we burning out?
Swept out of sight, rolling up on an ocean
Let's cut all the ropes and get lost in the moment
If our hearts are alive, maybe then they might
Send us back to the sun
We're losing light, our love is dying
Out cold on the floor
Like a fallen star that shines no more
Take, take me back to where it was before
When we were on fire, fire
Head down, heading underground feeling wasted
Cold to the bone, so alone I can taste it
Let's light it up
Streets are alive now, and everything's bracing
You're on my mind, running in my veins fueling the flame
Let's start it again
And I know, I know
We're losing light, our love is dying
Out cold on the floor
Like a fallen star that shines no more
Take, take me back to where it was before
When we were on fire, fire
We were on fire, fire
(Whoa, whoa, whoa) Now don't tell me no
Then we're burning down (Whoa, whoa, whoa)
(Whoa, whoa, whoa) And don't tell me no
Then we're burning now (Whoa, whoa, whoa)
'Cause I know, I know
We're losing light and our love is dying
Take, take me home
Back to where it was before
When we were on fire, fire
No I know, I know
We're losing light, our love is dying
Out cold on the floor
Like a fallen star that shines no more
Take, take me back to where it was before
When we were on fire, fire
We were on fire, fire.
The song "When We Were on Fire" by James Bay, explores the theme of a relationship that has lost its spark and faded into darkness. The lyrics of the song describe the two people gradually drifting apart, as their love slowly dies. The opening lines, "Drifting apart, getting harder to hold you, days getting dark and the nights are growing cold" set the tone of the song and paint a picture of a relationship on the brink of ending.
The lyrics of the song describe the desire to rekindle the passion that once burned so brightly between the two people. The lines, "Let's cut all the ropes and get lost in the moment, if our hearts are alive, maybe then they might, send us back to the sun" express the desire to escape the current situation and find their way back to the burning passion that they once shared.
As the song progresses, the mood shifts and the lyrics become more hopeful. The lines, "Let's light it up, streets are alive now, and everything's bracing, you're on my mind, running in my veins fueling the flame, let's start it again" describe a renewed sense of hope and energy, as the two people attempt to reignite the flames of their relationship.
Overall, "When We Were on Fire" is a powerful song that explores the highs and lows of a relationship that has lost its spark. The lyrics are raw and emotional and capture the essence of the human experience in a way that is both relatable and introspective.

I didn't think it was possible for him to sound even better than he did in his album. Until I stumbled across this acoustic vid. Love his pureness and intensity.

If someone asks me why I love him so much I'd direct them to this video, because it shows why perfectly. All he needs is a guitar, an acoustic one at that, and he'll do the rest to bring his songs alive. That emotion in his voice and the passion in his guitar playing are all he needs.
