He was born in Tidworth, Wiltshire, United Kingdom. His style is a mix of pop, rock and folk. Along with vocals, Blunt plays a wide variety of instruments including the piano, guitar, organ, marimba, and mellotron.
Blunt was educated at Elstree School, Woolhampton, then Harrow School (where he received his nickname 'Blunty'), and finally the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Before the release of his album, Blunt was a commissioned officer in the British Army, rose to the rank of Captain and served as a NATO peacekeeper in Kosovo. He was also on duty for the funeral of the Queen Mother on 9th April, 2002.
He is currently signed to Linda Perry's American label Custard, and became the first British artist to top the American singles chart in nearly a decade when his first single from Back to Bedlam, "You're Beautiful", reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2006. The last British artist to do so had been Elton John in 1997 with the song Candle in the Wind.
His second album, All The Lost Souls, was released on 17th September 2007.
His third album, Some Kind of Trouble, was released on 8th November 2010.

Next Time I'm Seventeen
James Blunt Lyrics
It was the year of '91
Freddy Mercury was gone
And Nevermind was playing on our radios
We were only seventeen
I would park out on your street
Wait for dark to see you
Climbing out your window
Something's gone wrong with the weather
There's a storm out in the desert
But to us that all seemed very far away
Sometimes, when I
Think about those days it makes me wonder
What went by
Oh yeah, left me breathless
She was so damn wild
Sometimes I think those were the
Best days of our lives (Ohh)
We were young and reckless
Too soon, out of time
Next time I'm seventeen
I won't be left behind
She would still be mine
She would still be mine
While the Iron Curtain fell
We were lying in a field
Shared the gin and cigarettes I'd
Stolen from my dad
We both knew what would happen next
In my cherry red AX
Did she know she was the best I'd ever had
Said we'd always be together
That we'd stay this way forever
The future seemed so very far away
Sometimes, when I
Think about those days it makes me wonder
What went by
Oh yeah, left me breathless
She was so damn wild
Sometimes I think those were the
Best days of our lives (Ohh)
We were young and reckless
Too soon, out of time
Next time I'm seventeen
I won't be left behind
She would still be mine
You must be married now
In some suburban house are you happy now?
Do you ever think back to those times?
It was so innocent
Do you ever meet me in your mind?
Oh yeah, she left me breathless
She was so damn wild
Sometimes I think those were the
Best days of our lives
We were young and reckless
Too soon, out of time
Next time I'm seventeen
I won't be left behind
And she would still be mine
(Oh yeah, she was) she'd still be mine
(Sometimes) still be mine

This should've been a single and it wasn't even on the album! It's catchy as f*ck and his voice sounds gorgeous.

ahhh my 18th birthday is in less than a month and i feel like being 17 has been a total waste. My 17th birthday was 2 weeks before the first coronavirus lockdown and i've just felt trapped since then. I feel like this was the year I would have had the most freedom with the least responsibility, and I feel like I'm so unprepared for being an adult. I used to listen to this song a lot when I was little and it made me so excited to be 17. I know we're still gonna be in lockdown by my birthday in march which is just so depressing. I wish I could have this year back and actually live it.
