Brown began his career as a gospel singer in Toccoa, Georgia. He first came to national public attention in the mid-1950s as the lead singer of the Famous Flames, a rhythm and blues vocal group founded by Bobby Byrd. With the hit ballads "Please, Please, Please" and "Try Me", Brown built a reputation as a dynamic live performer with the Famous Flames and his backing band, sometimes known as the James Brown Band or the James Brown Orchestra. His success peaked in the 1960s with the live album Live at the Apollo and hit singles such as "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag", "I Got You (I Feel Good)" and "It's a Man's Man's Man's World".
During the late 1960s, Brown moved from a continuum of blues and gospel-based forms and styles to a profoundly "Africanized" approach to music-making, emphasizing stripped-down interlocking rhythms that influenced the development of funk music. By the early 1970s, Brown had fully established the funk sound after the formation of the J.B.s with records such as "Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine" and "The Payback". He also became noted for songs of social commentary, including the 1968 hit "Say It Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud". Brown continued to perform and record until his death from pneumonia in 2006.
Brown recorded 17 singles that reached No. 1 on the Billboard R&B charts. He also holds the record for the most singles listed on the Billboard Hot 100 chart that did not reach No. 1. Brown was posthumously inducted into the first class of the Rhythm & Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2013 as an artist and then in 2017 as a songwriter. He also received honors from several other institutions, including inductions into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame, and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In Joel Whitburn's analysis of the Billboard R&B charts from 1942 to 2010, Brown is ranked No. 1 in The Top 500 Artists. He is ranked seventh on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

Let Them Talk
James Brown Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Talk don't bother me
I want the whole wide world to know
That I love you so
Let them whisper for they know not
What between you and I
I keep on loving you until the day I die
They're trying to breakup our romance
But they don't have, they don't have a chance
We had the kind of love that was so strong
And we'll be together from now on
I know that gossip comes from the devil's workshop
But true love will make it stop
I want the whole wide world to know
That I love you so
They're trying to breakup our romance, darling
They don't stand a possible chance
We had the kind of love that was so strong
And we'll be together from now on
Let them talk, let them tell anybody
I don't care, let them talk, let them tell anybody
Hit me now, hit me, let them talk
I just don't, it don't bother me, no, no, no
Let them tell everybody, sometime
Sometime they just don't, they just don't
They just don't understand it
But come on, hit me now, hit me
Oh baby I wanna feel, I wanna feel now
Hit me, hit me now, let them talk, let them talk
Let them talk, let them talk
Hit me now, hit me, baby, I just don't
I just don't, I don't understand it
The lyrics to James Brown's "Let Them Talk" are a declaration of love, in the face of gossip and rumors. Brown is unbothered by the chatter of others, as he knows that the love between him and his partner is strong enough to survive any scandal. He wants the world to know the depth of his affection for his significant other, and he won't let the whispers of others tarnish the bond they share.
The first two lines, "Let them talk if they want to / Talk don't bother me," set the tone for the rest of the song, as Brown confidently brushes off any negative comments from outsiders. He recognizes that people will always talk, but he won't allow their words to affect his relationship.
In the third line, "I want the whole wide world to know / That I love you so," Brown expresses a desire to announce his love to the world. He doesn't want to hide or be ashamed of his feelings, despite what others might say.
The lines, "But true love will make it stop / I want the whole wide world to know / That I love you so" are a clear message that true love will conquer all. Brown believes in the power of their love, and he knows that it will endure even if others try to bring it down.
Overall, "Let Them Talk" is a powerful ode to love in the face of adversity. Brown's unwavering dedication to his partner serves as an inspiration to listeners, reminding them to hold onto their own love despite any obstacles that may come their way.
