I've used the first three notes as my text message sound for years, so that it now feels jarring to hear them in the original song. This album already recontextualizes many existing computer notifications to similar effect, but I took it a step further by mentally turning the resulting music back into a new computer notification. It's dumb and meta but somehow has made me like this even more.

From what I'm reading on Wikipedia, that was actually the artist's intent. The "project" was complete once people started using this as a ringtone.

Good Job Ross

"Hopefully these songs [will be] made available for ringtone[s] and the album will be condensed into ringtone format so the album won't be the centerpiece, it will just dissipate into the infrastructure. The record is just the contained gallery space of these ringtone compositions."[11] Ferraro said that listeners using the songs from Far Side Virtual as ringtones was the realization of Far Side Virtual as "a performance art installation".[12]

When I'm listening to this song I always feel like I'm walking through a beautiful soviet city. There's something beautiful, familiar and nostalgic in this song.

@kwirkLA

This is the song that repeats in your headphones indefinitely if you're sent to 90s gamer hell and have to create "the perfect SimCity" without understanding what exactly that is

the layering is so wonderful at the end of this track!

@NewWaveArch90

It's as if the 90s never ended

@germanpaintercult

Check out Famicom\\Fountains or Eyeliner. Total 90's nostalgic bliss

@cocainaforall4636

The 90s will never end, it just goes on forever.
