I too felt a loss when characters Tony and Ziva left. There was always that 'will they, won't they?' connection. Then Abby left and Gibbs, Ducky and McGhee were left to carry the series as best they could.

So with Gibbs leaving I think it was time to draw the final curtain to the program.

Many die hard fans will disagree with me but in as much as there comes a time when a character's time has run out, the same can be said once a program's principal and patriarchal character leaves.

In as much as I've always liked David McCallum as an actor, Ducky isn't going to be around forever which leaves just McGhee of the original team and to be honest it doesn't work for me.

Perhaps in two seasons they might prove me wrong.

Emmerdale has gone from strength to strength since its narrow storyline back in the 1970s. But it too will be strongly tested once The Dingles (Cain, Chaz, Marlon and Charity) and The Tate's (Kim) are gone.

As for EastEnders and Coronation Street, only history, sentimentality and a strong fan base keep them going.

Watching this show from the first episode and seeing the growth of the characters is amazing; watching Sean Murray (McGee) grow into the actor he is now has been a fantastic trip, I'm glad to see him evolve.
All show and all roles have an expiration date on them; 20 years is one hell of a run that not many shows can brag about, now just bring back Tony and Zeva and life will be great.

Yes, I give MAJOR props to McGee for being the quiet rock of the show, and for evolving the way he has. The way he addresses his colleagues to the way he interviews a suspect - he wouldn't have held that kind of confidence ten or even five years ago. I miss Tony and Ziva too, but I think their departures were necessary for McGee's growth (especially Tony). That said, it's great we still get to keep tabs even from a distance with their blue moon appearances now and again.

A great strength of this show is not only allowing for people to come and go, but also breathing room for characters to evolve (or devolve). McGee gains confidence as a senior officer, and Palmer gains confidence in his own expertise. And yes, 20 years is a Long time for a show to be on air... But great to see it still going, and curious to see where their new lead Parker will take it.

Gibbs' character arc came full circle and I kinda felt he was leaving in S18 after he finally let go of his daughter and wife. He finally found happiness and he had to let go of his team, kinda like a mother bird pushing her babies so they could fly on their own. His team gotta be their own team

I was really upset when mark Harmon left but I thought I’d give Gary Cole a chance.loved him in Midnight Caller and American Gothic. Glad I gave him that chance. I love him as Parker. It’s great to see Magee and Jimmy grow into take charge people. Hope this show lasts for years!

Mark Harmon is a solid guy. When I was in the Navy, NCIS and JAG would often film episodes on our ship. We would have very long days standing by helping out anyway we could. Mark always took time to bs with us, and fought the director to make sure that we had access to craft services.

I hadn't watched NCIS up until 2 1/2 months ago, and ended up binge-watching it during this time while I've been on medical leave. It was interesting watching it one episode after another through all 20 seasons. I could see how the show progressed and changed, including the technology. It's such a well-written and well-casted show. After Michael Weatherly, Pauley Perrette, and Mark Harmon left, it of course lost a lot of the chemistry, but I pushed through, and It's still a good show in spite of this.

We've watched NCIS faithfully since the very first episode. Love the show and love the characters, past and present. We particularly like Gibbs. But life goes on. And knowing McGee and the others so well, it is comfortable as the show progresses. I particularly like Parker as well (Gary Cole). I'm not saying as much as Gibbs, but credit to the producers and writers for making Parker his own person and not another Gibbs-type character. Parker brings his own strengths and quirks to the show. It's also nice to see their leader as more sharing and open to input.

Obviously Harmon couldn't stay in that role forever, however, since he left, they have made all the characters soft. It's more like a daytime soap opera now and less an action crime show. It's not going to survive unless they get more edgy with the characters. Truly Torres was kind of edgy and tough but they have softened him up as well. All the characters are the same now. Hope they fix this. I've watched and enjoyed the show for a long time.

I must admit I'm still adjusting to Wilmer Valderrama, probably on the Only show that would hire him 😆🤣🤪 I mean, slowly but surely I'm accepting his character as well as his presence as an actor, but I do agree with you in that to make him (and the rest of the show) successful in its present state, they need to highlight the roughness around the edges. I think we'll see more differentiation as they adjust to a new lead character, once it gets past the "awkward growing pains" phase of things.

To be honest, it was the softness; the human-ness that I have always liked about the show. I always saw the softness in Gibbs when he worked with people. Without being human toward other people and seeing their human side, it doesn’t work for me. I saw them as people who lived their job; who when having a puzzling situation it lived I’m their heads until a new idea popped in.

I still miss Tony and Ziva but most of all Gibbs. I love Sean Murray and Brian Dietsen and Ducky. The team has evolved and each character brings something new. I have watched all the reruns from season 1 through current at least 4 times on Netflix and Paramount. It never gets old.

I’m rewatching the show right now and seeing this video and how old gibs looks vs what he looks like in the episode I just watched, it’s sad and I’m glad he’s finally moved on from the show. I think they made him stay in the show for way too long, they should have moved him to a more stationary role by maybe injuring his character so he has to go through a character development phase to eventually become director. That way he could still be in the show but wouldn’t be the main actor. I would have been happy that way, but now I don’t even watch the show because the actors aren’t relatable and real. Everyone has to be nice with each other in the newer episodes rather than real like what Ziva, Tony and Magee had

When I heard of Gibbs leaving I watched the final episodes... and thanks to Cole I found new interest in the series. with all the controversy that went around his departure, and abby's departure too I don't understand why they can't come clean and tell the fans the truth about why they really left
this video's thumbnail made it look like they were going to reveal that Jessica had him fired but "did that really happen?" we will never know for sure

We all know about the difficulty he'd had with a certain actress, who had stated that she was frightened of him, after she had demanded that his dog be removed from the set after it had bitten a cameraman, even the person had not made that much of the incident and she'd also threatened to leave the show, if her demand wasn't met, but the studio backed Harmon and she left, with the studio supposedly offering her, a show of her own, but that never got off the ground and supposedly she then started begging the studio to pur her back in the series, which nevef happened. Any his name should always be In the credits, as isn't he the shows executive producer.

I think either Gibbs or Dinozzo will be back. I loved the episodes with Mark Harmon and Pamela Dawber together. They've been married a long time, and what fun it must have been to work together. Frankly, I'd like to see both Gibbs and Dinozzo come back, perhaps in slightly antagonistic ways. Perhaps Dinozzo comes back with his own supervisory roll, making him and Gibbs equals, which may not go down well with Gibbs. There was some unfortunate writing in this episode. The one thing wrong -- the hole in the wall of the basement. Gibbs had built many boats in the basement, the boat Kelly was featured in several episodes, so knocking out a wall to get the boat out made no sense at all. If that was necessary, he would have done it with the first boat. Lack of continuity. As someone who was a science teacher for 20 years, there is a lot of bad science in this show, nearly every episode there is something. But, that has nothing to do with this topic. :) Good video, thanks!
