McMorrow's second album, Post-Tropical, was released in January 2014. It was noted for its distinct shift in style from the nu-folk of his first album, leaning more towards electronica and ambient sounds. Two singles were released from the album - "Cavalier" and "Red Dust." The album reached the top 30 in the UK and the Netherlands; as well as peaking at number 2 on the Irish album charts.

Toby existed
Where nothing starts
Been in where we almost missed
Staggered that it did not flood
And I look back and see from under look
Pardon it for different reasons
And soft, and soft and sure leaves
Steady as the sea
There is so little left from the warmth of the sun
I wish I had understand my
Was never either bouncing call
Til I caught like a fragment of my single heart
And I caught like a fragment of our single love
There is so little left from the warmth of the sun
There is so little left, there is so, oh, oh, oh
The song "Outside Digging" by James Vincent McMorrow is an introspective piece that is open to interpretation. The opening line "There is so little left of the warmth of the sun" sets the melancholic and somber tone of the song. This line could be interpreted to suggest that the singer is mourning the loss of something that was once warm, bright, and life-giving, or it could metaphorically represent a time of happiness and contentment that has come and gone.
The subsequent lines of the song are cryptic and full of imagery that adds to the overall sense of loss and melancholy. The line "Toby existed / Where nothing starts" can be interpreted in many ways, but it suggests a sense of futility or hopelessness. The next line "Been in where we almost missed / Staggered that it did not flood" could be interpreted as a metaphor for narrowly avoiding disaster or danger. The singer seems to be reflecting on a time when they were fortunate enough to be spared from something, but they also seem to be pondering the possibility of what could have happened instead.
The rest of the song is full of abstract imagery and fragmented visions, with the recurring refrain "There is so little left from the warmth of the sun" continuing to drive home the sense of loss and sorrow that the singer is experiencing. The chorus "I wish I had understand my / Was never either bouncing call / Til I caught like a fragment of my single heart / And I caught like a fragment of our single love" is open to interpretation, but it seems to be about longing for understanding or clarity, and a sense of regret for choices made or opportunities missed.

Outside Digging Lyrics:
There is so little light from the warmth of the sun
There is so little light from the warmth of the sun
There is so little light from the warmth of the sun
Till we existed
Where nothing stood
Bitter how we almost missed
Staggered that it did not flood
When I look back in season
From under root
Cornering for different reasons
Burdened with the lesser fruit
And soft
And soft and shirtless sleeves
Unsteady as the sea
There is so little light from the warmth of the sun
There is so little light from the warmth of the sun
There is so little light from the warmth of the sun
I wish I had understood my marks
Was not worried about single parts
I cut like a fragment of a single heart
I cut like a fragment of a single heart
There is so little light from the warmth of the sun
There is so little light from the warmth of the sun
There is so little light from the warmth of the sun
There is so
